One massive cause will be the increase in the UK population of over 10 million since 1970. I'm not sure the increase in hospital beds and nursing staff has increased by 20 %. The pressure on bed space has also increased with the growth in the number of oldies. |  |

The nhs is f*cked for a number of reasons. But wait another five years and we'll look back on 2015 as halcyon days for a publicly funded, free at the point of use health service. |  |

I'm no tory apologist (they'd ditch the NHS in a heartbeat if there were no votes in it) but demographics, expectation, litigation and increasing ability to treat everything will ensure that the whole concept will be pretty much f*cked over time, unless people are prepared to pay more tax and forego private privilege through ability to pay.. Breaks my heart; our country's finest peacetime achievement and a real testament to human values. |  |

I think you are absolutely right about the GP part of it all.
Not being able to get appointments other than for two 2-hour windows 4 and a half days a week (apparently no one where I live gets ill on a Wednesday afternoon) is forcing people to A&E.
That together with the drunks every evening (particularly on a Friday / Saturday - half the people in there are wasted) is putting ridiculous pressure on the system.
The other thing is that you see doctors that appear to know their anus from their ulna in A&E whereas local GPs often seem to know less than if you did a quick search of the symptoms on the internet. |  | | |

Mate of mine suffered a nasty hand injury that eventually needed surgery, but while he was waiting in the waiting room to be seen and in considerable pain a fella came in complaining of a spot on the side of his head that was painfull ffs, this fella was well dressed and groomed, but obviously with no common sense the buffoon. |  |

They should make half of GP consultation sessions non appointment. Turn up and seen in order you arrive.
Can't speak English, kindly fook off from the premisis unless you've brought your own interpreter.
A proper referal service for patients will mental issues would help greatly also, ridiculous amount of appointment time is spent on this. Requires a lot more money on a specialist service. |  |

The middle income people pay a high proportion of tax already relative to their salary.
