Memorial Day observed today in the U.S. on 03:46 - May 25 by Lohengrin
Don't they call it Decoration Day down in Dixie, Dav?
I think I remember when, in my childhood, we called it "Decoration Day," so I looked it up.
The former Confederate states began to honour the dead in the War Between the States [in the south, "Civil War" in the North] on "Decoration Day," and still do so. The federal government later established a national day of remembrance, calling it Memorial Day, honouring Americans who died in all wars.
In my part of the world, it is marked with solemnity, and with untold numbers of flags in cemeteries on all veterans' graves.
