ITV News reporting on a Great Dane on 14:13 - Jul 26 with 1637 views | somersetsimon | I've heard both. I guess "The Gower" could be short for "The Gower Peninsula". I don't believe that Gower or Mumbles (or even The Mumbles) are real postal addresses, so it's a bit like saying "The Midlands" or "The Borders" when you are talking about a vague geographical area.

The Mumbles are the rocks down there aint they? People tend to think that Oystermouth is Mumbles. Oh, before I forget, Frank Sinatra used to call Marlon Brando 'mumbles'.

Yes. The Mumbles are the two small islands behind where Cinders used to be. The bit where the White Rose going up to Underhill Park is Oystermouth. The bit where the George and Pilot are is Southend. People just refer to the whole lot as Mumbles. Gower is just called Gower. People often call it The Gower, but that's just wrong. Not worth losing friends over.

Just because those who are wrong are in the majority, it doesn't make them right. The road signs say Gower, ordnance survey says Gower. Those of us born and raised there say Gower.

Yeah i'm with you on this Tim, It's like the bit in town near the beach is called 'sandfields' and behind that on the way up the hill is called 'Mount Pleasant', and once you get to the top of the hill that's actually 'Townhill'. But for some reason most folk refer to the whole lot as 'Swansea'! Weird innit!

Point is Gar, Swansea actually exists. Mumbles is just two islands, not the bit that people used to go drinking in. I lived there most of my life and I always called it Mumbles, just because everyone else does and no one knows where Southend is, even the taxi drivers in oystercabs. The area you described is called 'town' it's on maps as that and everything
