Saw them loads of times in the late 80s / early 90s. Wonder if they've still got it?
Quite a few years ago, can't remember exactly when, my son had two tickets for Maiden at Cardiff and his mate couldn't go so I volunteered to take him there. I was never a great fan but thought I'd see what all the fuss was about . Turned out to be one of my favourite gigs ever! Along with Yes and Rory Gallagher. Bruce Dickinson must have run miles that night around the set, but it was so LOUD !

Aye Bruce gets about eh! One of my first gigs was Donnington '88, Maiden headlining. Seen them a few times since, always ace despite not really liking any post '84 stuff. Early stuff fantastic. Saw Yes in the NEC in '91, absolute legends! 'Awaken' was a real highlight. My mate and I were kipping in a doorway of the NEC that night (as you do!), so we decided to hang around and meet the band. Got Jon Anderson and Alan White's autographs. We asked why they didn't play Starship Trooper and JA said it was 'because they were saving it for the American dates.' Kents!

Saw them on the Final Frontier tour a couple of years ago (thanks Blaze!) and they were excellent.
Pain or damage don't end the world. Or despair, or f*cking beatings. The world ends when you're dead. Until then, you got more punishment in store. Stand it like a man... and give some back.

I was aslo at that 88 Donnington Monsters of Rock when they were headlining. The vid for Guns n Roses Paradise City was shot in that gig as you know.
Seen them about 4 times but the last time I saw them in Cardiff was the best seat ever by a fluke we ended up in the balcony front row centre brilliant view...and so glad these days they play mainly their greatest hits rather than obscure album tracks.
True rock gods...maybe I ll get to this one but it will sell fast.
PROUD RECIPIENT OF THE THIRD PLANET SWANS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD.
"Per ardua ad astra"
Bruce is a bit screechy these days, but there isn't a better frontman in metal
Can't be easy to sing like Bruce for 100+ shows on tour.

Mate you'll remember that it was the gig that two kids got crushed during GnR. I called my folks about half 2 from a services (way pre mobile!) and their relief was tangible. I didn't even know til then. Was 15 at the time and absolutely indestructible, wandering around Donnington on my own with a proper 80s mullet - oh happy days!

I think one got killed during the Van Halen set...106,000 people there that day Maidens largest UK gig.
If you fell down in that lot on that sloping field you would not get up again for sure...one giant mosh pit.
Brilliant headliners though....
Not to be a pedant but both were during GnR. It wasn't Van Halen either it was Dave Lee Roth solo, with Steve Vai on guitar.
Kiss were hammy as fook too. It was also the first time they'd played under a band that had previously supported them. That had been their stance beforehand.
No arguments on the headliners comment mind
