Surely if he is under contract to play football and then refuses to do it then he us in breach of contract. Sickness and annual leave excepting. I would have thought they are on a position to fine the ass off him. Maybe even stop all wages. I never get this refusal to play whilst under contract to do so. |  |

I would have thought they are on a position to fine the ass off him. Maybe even stop all wages. I never get this refusal to play whilst under contract to do so. |
It's not like he'll notice a few weeks wages going unpaid. Payet will make back any fines 10x over if this forces a move this month.

It would be incredibly difficult to simply let a player rot in the reserves though. If a player was flat out refusing to play, maybe you could sue them for breach of contract.
That rarely happens though - as is the case here a player just can't be arsed to play. So he'll be picked but won't put a shift in. It would be nigh on impossible to sue a player for 'not trying'.
