Flynn Downes transfer turns in to an outright bidding war 6th Jul 2022 16:34
Swansea City are resigned to losing Flynn Downes as news regards the twenty three year olds swans future is pretty much not in SA1 next season. Downes is a West Ham supporter since childhood and now the hammers have started they will match any bid Crystal Palace offer Swansea. 0

Looks like a done deal now. Do Ipswich get a percentage?

They paid £20m for Ayew. Sadly Swansea in desperation bought him back. for £18m. 5 goals from him would have been enough but he missed all his chances.

Yes

Any idea how much.

I think Downes will be perfect as a replacement for Noble.

Agreed.

Over recent years we have been spoilt by the young talent we have seen who have gone onto better things.

A bidding war is good news for our club. We can now get top dollar for Downes which we could not get for Rodon

West Ham fans think it's done, £9m up front plus £3m in addons, medical within next 24 hours. Cheaper backup for their first choice midfield after other options looked like costing £40m+. Ipswich will nab £1.5m of the fee, doubling their money on him from last summer.

He's from a family of West Ham fans so you have to hope it all works out well for him.

It’s disappointing to lose an obviously talented player but it shows the sort of business we should be doing. He cost a bit last year and now we’re selling him at much more. With Piroe and Obafemi etc also growing in value the future looks bright. I’ve no doubt if Darling has another good season he will also go for big bucks.

Let’s just hope it gets invested back in the team.

It was already invested in last season's wages. Question is how much the owners are willing to overspend this season in advance of next summer's sales.

Fans want a bit more though we need to spend some of it wisely and go again.

A big if.
If we go up, it’s money well spent, but have they got the bottle ?

The owners have put a reported £13m into the club as a convertible loan note. I believe this loan will not be repaid and converted into shares sometime this year. It is my guess.

It is an investment into growing the club. They are backing Martin and his recruitment team because they are getting (for the first time in their time at the club) "value for money".

Obafemi, Piroe, Downes Darling Wood and Wasiri hopefully too. He wanted O'Reilly too who has increased in value sharply at Celtic. These are good long term investments.

They got burned win the relegation season and again under Potter. Cooper persuaded them to buy Bennett an extend Fulton 's deal. The reality nobody will take him for free on what Cooper gave him. He is over payed. Cooper also bought Peterson who he declined to play. He could not persuade Ayew to stick around one second after his lucrative deal expired. Cooper also sent back Goykeres who needed a little love then claimed he was not given a centre forward.

They've already taken risks. Last accounts showed a big loss, last season we spent more than we brought in and will have made another big loss, this summer we committed £1.5m to Darling before any sales were finalised.

I hope we're not gambling everything on promotion, that debt figure needs to stay within the "recoverable with one big sale" margins.
