This is one of the most contentious issues at the moment and has been for years. Many people slag off the system including Immigration lawyers saying that they use the argument of Human Rights to prolong the time it takes for immigrants/asylum seekers to be processed. Some times it takes years. And during this process it costs us millions every day to provide for them. People also slag off the ECHR arguing that that is part of the problem in us trying to get rid of people who have no right to be here.

An Immigration lawyer was interviewed on TV this morning for his opinions. He started out in his job in 2000. He said at that tome there was a fast track system in place which meant people's claims were processed within a week. If they appealed it was stretched to two weeks. And the government were sending back each year around 33,000 immigrants to their home countries with whom we had a repatriation agreement. This all happened while we were part of the ECHR.

The Tories scrapped the Fast Track system.

They’ve cut the number of staff processing the appeals etc and the system has disintegrated. If we had the staff to fast track people we’d save a fortune and get “wrong uns” out of the country. This in turn would create a less hostile environment for those who are genuine applicants.

When you start to become the minority of your own country, you have been invaded. I like the recent report from Japan rejecting immigration - It's a peaceful prosperous country with longest life expectancy in the world, the lowest murder rate with little political conflict, it's a beautiful place, Japan still feels like Japan.

Even when you know, you never know?

Unfortunately back in 2000 the numbers of asylum seekers arriving in Europe was very small. A lot has happened since then including the new phenomenon of illegal economic migrants arriving in their millions in place like Greece, Spain and Italy.

I think another thing that seriously annoys people is that in a cost of living crisis where people are struggling to pay their bills, eat and heat their own homes the government is paying billions to put these criminals into five star hotels that the rest of us would have to pay £200 a night for.

£5.6 million a day housing illegals, truly a shocking figure, and authorities have no idea how many just disappear into the night.

They are asylum seekers not illegals. If they get refused asylum and stay here then they are illegals as no laws have been broken

Apart from paying the huge amounts of money funding international criminal human trafficking rings that often send people to their deaths and cause untold misery.

If they enter the country illegally, they are illegal immigrants. Many knowingly enter illegally and only claim refugee or asylum seeker status when caught.

The genuine cases get caught up with the rest, they all get lumped together and treated the same.

A lot of illegal immigrants come here and disappear into the mist. They go and work for family and friends or even get involved in criminal activity, even if involuntarily.

They don’t stay in the south of Spain long at all, there’s very little here for them, it’s merely a transit route north.

A great believer in taking anything you like to wherever you want to.

Any attempt to solve the problem has to start with improving the processing.

Until that’s done all we’ll get is more impossible plans that stoke anger when they don’t work.

Yet they’re are allowing in more economic migrants than ever before.

They have an ageing population and a low birth rate so they’ve needed to allow people into the country to keep the economy going and seem to have managed it.

It’s such a hot potato here than even suggesting it is too tricky for politicians.

They could take out the trafficking gangs at a fraction of the cost. Ask yourself why they don't.

On a serious note it requires coordinated international efforts which also require infrastructure investment in said countries to make the standard of living better. Again, it would be cheaper in the long run but nobody does anything.

That may well be the case, but any sensible government would be undertaking “environmental scanning” and identifying issues, threats and risks early doors and taking action to mitigate the risk. It’s clearly that’s not been happening here for many years. Migration claims that the number of UK immigration enforcement staff assigned to tackling illegal entry into Britain has dropped and the budget cut - all while we’re getting huge numbers of people entering the country.

We’re getting plenty of talk the talk, but no walk the walk from government who are trying to gaslight us.

The vast majority are economic migrants. Genuine asylum seekers are supposed to claim asylum in the first safe country they are in not travel halfway across Europe to get here.
It is illegal to enter the UK without passing through immigration at ports of entry.
Also many are from other safe European Countries like Albania and Romania.

It’s also illegal to employ the services of nefarious people trafficking gangs. That’s the big one for me. A ticket on one of these boats can cost up to £20,000. The narrative that they are poor destitute people desperately fleeing for their lives is clearly and obviously a false one.

They don't have to claim asylum in the first country they come to.

It's not illegal to cross the channel snd land on out shores. Yes, they have to report to immigration.

The majority do stay in those countries. We get off lightly as the other countries take in far morr
