Going in for Van der Wiel? 10:04 - May 21 with 4326 viewsTheKirkyLife

Free transfer, we're clearly in need of a new RB though if this story is true can we really fend off West Ham who are in need of a RB himself? Either way, guaranteed first team football at both clubs.

I'd personally love to have him. Quality attacker.

Well the Hammers have Antonio playing there and he's had a great season.

You give it out, you take it back it`s all part of the game

He's much more effective as a winger however, it's his natural position. Definitely not understating his effectiveness at RB though just highlighting he was shoehorned into the position much like Valencia at United.

Antonio is awful at right back, as our game against them showed.

I think we ought to exercise great care in bringing players in on free transfers to enable us to pay them s high wage. We've been down this road.

Haven't West Ham also got Karl jenkinson and signed sam Byram in January? Can't see them after another right back surely. I'd be happy with either of those if available

Coming from PSG as well. Big spenders.

What would he be like in the PL though? Would he be as good as Bafe for example?

He's a winger. Playing him at RB was one of the reasons we rolled them over.

I think the Weil Barrow combination down the right would work well

Why come here when you can go to West Ham ? Massive new ground, European football, owners splashing the cash, bright lights of London.

Unless he's a surfer I can see the Wiel's coming off this deal.

I have this astounding belief that when you play football for four hours everyday and that's all you do apart from having the best health care and rehab and advice that you can get - that playing 20 yards deeper than you usually do shouldn't affect you that much.

Just a thought.

Oh, and the fact you play in apparently the best league in the world and paid accordingly making you a millionaire every three months or so would mean excuses like this are pretty worthless.

They may as well push him 20 yards to the left and try him at centre half then. If that doesn't work, 20 yards back and play him in goals

there 's a world of difference. If there wasn't, why don't we put Taylor on the wing next season? - hint: the fecker can't attack.

Valencia is great going forward - pants on position and defending. Much to our amusement a few weeks ago

Agree with your point.
However, the Antonio that was mentioned is Mikel Antonio (ex-Forest), not Antonio Valencia (who plays for Man Utd) or Enner Valencia (who plays for Wet Spam).
All very confusing
On topic though, Van der Wiel would be a step up for us on Naughton and Rangel, who is getting no younger. He would be pretty much guaranteed first team football at Swansea, it depends if this or money is his primary incentive.

Experience - tick
Quality - tick
Affordable - tick
Can offer him first-team football - tick
Better than what we've already got - tick tick tick

Would be a great get and I think he'd suit our team very nicely... could have a similar impact that Fuchs (a LB, I know) did at Leicester

Whether he wants to come here is another thing - but I seriously hope we've at least thrown in an offer!
