Being old ["very old" to be accurate] does have its advantages. When I was still in my teens before I went into the military, a touring blackface minstrel show came to town twice a year and performed in our high school "auditoriium," the only stage for miles. Packed house for every rousing show and thoroughly enjoyed without the slightest hint of negativity. Great comic routines, greater music, and banter like I never heard before or since. We also had regular visits from a group called the Chautauqua Society with all kinds of entertaining and educational stage presentations. Again, most enthusiastically received. Lost and in the dustbin of theatrical history, both, but remembered fondly by us old fogies. | |
