When you think of previous recipients like Yeats, Hamsun and Shaw then Bob's contribution to the world of letters looks rather meagre, to put it mildly.
An idea isn't responsible for those who believe in it.

Fair play. That's a surprise, but completely deserved. Fella is a force of nature and a complete wordsmith, whether you like his singing or not. My favourite song is probably "only a pawn in their game"

This isn't a Novello award we're talking about, mun. As a songwriter, a lyricist, certainly compared to most of today's pap he's up there; but if we're talking about actual prose or poetry then placed alongside Eliot, Jones or Auden?
I'm not really knocking Dylan, I've got quite a few of his albums sat on the shelves (although it's only Bringing it all Back Home and Highway 61 Revisited I'd care to dip back in to) but I do find the award of the Nobel Prize quite funny.

Gates of Eden from Bringing it all Back Home is a stone cold classic
