I agree! As I've stated on here before Canas has so far shown nothing to suggest he is fit to lace Leon's boots.

Leon MOM against St Gallan. Like a man possessed, when we had our backs against the wall he was winning tackles all over pitch against a physical side all twice the size of him, so don't even spin the Canas is physically stronger line.

Hope ML realises sooner rather than later that without Leon in the team we just don't click.

F*ck Canas!

Why is everybody raving about him? I haven't seen anything spectacular from him to suggest he's fit to lace Leon's boots yet.

Against United (second half) and Spurs we looked void of any shape, slow to clear up the second ball and getting caught in possession with sloppy/desperate passing under pressure.

How often did that happen last season when Leon was ever-present? Even if we lost the game we were organised, tight, kept possession even under pressure.

Canas might be an exciting, more glamorous option as a new signing but I think we'll struggle if he's the preferred option week in week out as the only holding mid.

As for other threads criticising Ash. It looks like he's had a nightmare in both games because he's got a midfield in front of him that is disorganised, not winning second ball, and giving away possession. Something he's not entirely accustomed to after the last 3-4 seasons.

Swansea City midfielder Ki Seung-Yeung linked with move to Sunderland

Surely there is need to keep him with the amount of games we will be playing this year?

Squad rotation (especially in midfield) will be crucial.

suggestions for new songs....
at 13:20 21 Aug 2013

You're all missing something here.

If you went to Malmo you would have noticed that all the songs we sang before, during and after were old school.

Why?

Because the fans were old school! and the old school fans are the ones who know how to create an atmosphere, they are the fans who go to away games. Very similar to Man Utd - plastics at home games - lunatics at away games.

I'll probably get some stick for saying it, but the Liberty is a very plastic place these days, a lot of women and kids that you simply would not have seen at The Vetch. The new breeds sing songs like 'Greatest Team in Football', 'Depeche Mode' and 'We'll sing on our own', 'Miguel, Miguel, Michu', 'Swans will tear you apart'. Don't think I heard those songs sung once in Malmo.

To give you an idea of the playlist for Malmo, there was a lot of:
Hymns and Arias
Swansea till I die
Take me to the vetch field
We f*cking hate Cardiff City
ML's barmy army
Are you watching Cardiff Scum
Den Haag song
We're waiting for you
Take my hand (in my opinion our best song)
Walking up the mumbles road
We are the Swansea boys
We'll keep the Jack flag flying high
1 man went to mow

and even a bit of:
Super Johnny Conforth
Roger Freestone
Oh Robbie Robbie, Robbie, Robbie, Robbie, Robbie....Robbie James

You tell me how many people at Saturdays game would know the words to all of those songs?

Creating new songs won't create a better atmosphere, returning to our old songs might help but I fear the days of creating a Vetch like atmosphere will never, ever return and we will only generate something close at away games. Hence, I don't bother with home games anymore and go to as many away games as possible.

Ball retention missing?
at 12:27 19 Aug 2013

One thing that was crystal clear to me on Saturday was how many wayward shots we had from in and around edge of their box.

Time after time we took the option of having a speculative effort rather than go backwards and retain possession, switch the play to come and have another go. A tactic that we have employed consistently for last 5 seasons.

Do you think we will see more of this direct play this season? If so, Shelvey needs to improve his shooting as his shot/goal ratio must be awful.

Playing Leon and Canas together
at 12:16 19 Aug 2013

I'm shocked people are writing Leon off.

Think a few people on here have got new player syndrome. Yes early signs are that Canas could be a top player but he gave the ball away a fair bit (including for one of their goals) and he does not read the game like Leon.

IMO he's got a fair way to go before he brings the same structure and second ball recovery Leon does.

Great trip, despite 0-0.

I'm going to swerve Romania, pray we get through then try and do most of group games.

Best: Clarke Carlisle was actually quite good as co-commentator for our first leg win over Malmo. Neville is excellent as a pundit, not so much as co-commentator...'Torres...Oh my wooooooorrrrrrrrrdddddddd!!'

For me Souness is the boss. Not afraid to tell it how it is, doesn't rely on obvious cliche's and he's been there and done it at highest level....unlike Andy Townsend, Southgate et al.

Worst has got to be Claridge, closely followed by Andy 'cliche' Gray! Absolutely hate them.

There's a Chelski fan in my office who went to watch them at Liberty. He praised everything about us, but absolutely ruined us for the goal music.

Twitter is also a good gauge, first leg against Malmo there were a few tweets taking the piss. If there's a few tweeting it there are probably thousands thinking it.

It's all a bit plastic down the Liberty these days and I guess the goal music is all a part of that.

It's a shame, as whatever people think on here, there is definitely a difference between celebrating a goal without tinpot music and with it. ie; the ferocity of the crowd is instantly removed.

Other factors include all seating and a glorified breeze block of a stadium full of new breed fans.

Compare how we celebrate a goal at away games to how we celebrate at the Liberty. Or compare how we celebrate a goal down the Liberty to how we used to celebrate on the North Bank. Different worlds!

Because of your petulant attitude.

If you really 'don't give a f*ck' then why have you posted the most comments on this thread, without actually offering more than numerous derogatory comments laced with expletives?
