She wasn’t in public office when the alleged offence took place. It was before she became an MP.

Nadhim Zahawi continues to serve as an MP after failing to pay £3.7 million capital gains tax. HMRC applied a 30% penalty so he eventually agreed to pay them £4.8 million. He claimed it was “careless and not deliberate”.

It’s a very low bar.

If she’s found guilty she’s said she’ll stand down so she won’t need to be given the boot. It will be interesting to see what the charges are if they’re ever brought…

Bizarre decision to take him off with 5 minutes plus injury to go. An equaliser means extra time and then penalties so you take off your best chance of a goal and an outstanding penalty taker.

An admission by Jacob Rees Mogg that voter ID was an attempt to fiddle the system.

“Mr Rees-Mogg's statement suggests that the reforms were an attempt to boost the Conservative Party's support, rather than to reduce electoral fraud - as had been said in public.

Speaking at the National Conservatism conference in Westminster, Mr Rees-Mogg said: "Parties that try and gerrymander end up finding their clever scheme comes back to bite them, as dare I say we found by insisting on voter ID for elections.

"We found the people who didn't have ID were elderly and they by and large voted Conservative, so we made it hard for our own voters and we upset a system that worked perfectly well."”

I agree.

But why is a senior railcard acceptable ID to vote but a student railcard isn’t?

You’d think that the government wanted to make it easier for older people to vote because they’re more likely to vote Conservative.

Yes, but the rules don’t apply to Boris as we know only too well.

To be fair, everyone knows that the laws of the land have a special clause in them which says they don't apply to Boris.

I’ve voted for most parties at some point. I don’t believe that political parties are like football clubs, you can and should change who you vote for depending on the situation at the time.

I do think that the current government is the worst of my lifetime. We’re used to incompetence but the corruption with this lot is astonishing and they’re so arrogant that they don’t even try to hide it. They were probably all corrupt to some degree but at least they were aware enough to hide it in the past.

Over population resulting in the crisis in housing, the NHS, social care etc has been encouraged by the government.

Obviously illegal immigration is a problem and needs to be stopped. It accounted for just under 30 thousand people last year. On the other hand the government welcomed one and a quarter million immigrants to Britain by issuing visas for them all.

The problem for the government is that without immigration the NHS would collapse due to the lack of staff. Social care would collapse for the same reason as would the hospitality industry. Universities would be in dire straits too. British people could do these jobs but they don’t appear to want to and we have countless people considered long term sick.

The average female of child bearing age in Britain is giving birth to 1.6 children.and the figure continues to fall. To maintain population levels that figure needs to be 2.1. With an ageing population that’s a time bomb economically and we need immigrants to work and pay taxes. Our housing stock is inadequate, schools and hospitals are falling down and the infrastructure of the country is disintegrating. Controlled immigration of productive people who pay taxes is the answer but it’s very difficult to achieve.

I don’t think either party has a clue what to do.

I agree but with the caveat that sometimes parties move away from your beliefs. I firmly believe that the problem with the Conservative Party is that, because of Brexit, they ceased to be the party of the centre right and hounded out talented people like Dominic Grieve and Rory Stewart. What was left was the right of the party and people like Truss, Anderson, Braverman, Rees-Mogg, Patel and Badenoch were given positions of power.

It’s no surprise that the lurch to the right has resulted in a collapse in their support. Even worse, many of them think that moving further right is the answer. History tells us that the party holding the centre ground holds power and the Tories have vacated the centre and allowed Starmer to occupy it.

Care home fees
at 08:24 1 May 2024

Beware "deprivation of assets". You're only allowed to give a couple of grand a year to offspring or the local authority will claim that you are doing it to avoid care home fees, trust or no trust.

As others have said, see a solicitor or CAB but make sure whoever you see knows the subject. It can get complicated and cash strapped local authorities don't turn a blind eye like they sometimes used to.

The government doesn't include fraud in the crime figures and then claims that crime is falling.

You really couldn't make it up.

I remember Blodwyn Pig and saw them around 1970 ish. They weren't Welsh despite the name.

Welsh bands that I recall seeing in the early 70s included Budgie and Sassafras.

I didn't suggest for a nanosecond that the EU borders are secure.

Brexit was supposed to secure ours though.

I have read that there are countless photographs of this man not wearing a Kippah when out and about. He chose to wear one whilst demanding to walk through a pro Palestinian March.

Make of that what you will…

Nobody has actually managed more goals than Yates, he’s our joint top scorer.

That tells us something about our strike force.
