What's the 'plethora' central MF players we have? We are very weak in this area.
We have:
Downes: Now back at West Ham. Looked good at Championship level but unproven at PL level Smallbone: doesn't really look a PL level player Aribo: looked poor in the PL, think he'll struggle again next season now we've moved up a level. Charles: a bench warmer in tier 2. Think we need two signings in this area in addition to Downes
The problem with this is that Martin is very stuck in his views on everything and, from his strong feelings towards fans on this subject that he expressed at the fan's forum, is clear he absolutely loves Bazunu and won't have a word said against him.
This could well mean he views Bazunu as his No1 keeper and will not be looking for a number 1 PL level keeper, but instead, someone who can do a job until Feb when Bazunu is fit.
The issue with this could well be that, if he does this, Martin will be sacked long before Bazunu is fit...
Promotion has dodged a financial bullet for Solak. If you think he is going to spend tens of millions on sticking in a few thousand extra seats into a stadium where it is pretty much always possible to buy tickets in the week of the game you may be in for a disappointment.
Why? What's the point in posting a piece of paper to the fans and making them pay for it when it can be sent electronically (and not lost/stolen by Royal Mail) for free.
He won't get near a PL bench unless there are injuries.
It's all down to the 'home grown' quota thing. There's a great line of work that now exists for UK born 3rd choice keepers who will never actually play for that club.
Scott Carson is about 50 and still 3rd choice at City despite never actually playing a game for them since he signed permanently in 2021.
The summary remains the same. Financially we're f'ked and there's as much chance of the club putting in the old monkey chicken petting zoo as extending the stadium.
