| Stoke v Swans : The biggest test so far for Matos on 09:21 - Dec 11 with 1167 views | Whiterockin | Remaining fixtures this year are. Stoke away Saturday Wrexham home Friday 19th Coventry away Friday 26th Oxford away Monday 29th One home game and three tricky away games. There is a decent amount of recovery time between matches which is unusual for Christmas, it gets a lot tighter early in the new year. Hopefully Matos will be able develop the squad further into the way he wants us to play but it won't be easy with those fixtures, although I think three of the four are definitely winnable if we play well. | | | |

We werent lucky against Portsmouth, our back 4 gave them little and they were lucky that we didn't finish certain chances we made. It should have been at least 2 probably 3. As someone has posted on another topic, saturday will be a yardstick to how far matos has taken us, he has definitely worked on our defence, let's hope that they dont give stoke many chances.

I agree. We looked much better at the back. We were very open at West Brom and the games before. I think we’ve improved more than it looked against Portsmouth. Hard to really tell against teams who set up like them and Oxford. The onus will be on Stoke to come at us and that will give a better indication of where we are defensively, pressing and on the counterattack.

Murphy did have loads of space on Wednesday, particularly first half , it was right in front of of me ,particularly when Galbraith went forward and the ball was turned over, a bloke just below me was going mad over it , our central defenders did well but we can’t keep allowing teams space like that

Murphy is a good player. It also has to be said that despite being their primary attacking outlet, he didn't actually create all that many openings.

I see what you’re saying,my point is we can’t keep letting it happen because sooner or later someone will take advantage of it and hurt us Better If we don’t give them the space in the first place | | | | Login to get fewer ads

What did they do with it? One shot iirc. Did you want galbraith to stay put at RB and not bother attacking?

He was their danger man certainly, but I agree, he didn’t actually threaten us that much. It was just a bit worrying when he got on the ball. It’s hard to be neutral, but I’d think a neutral watching that without knowing any of the players, would say Eom was more of a threat than Murphy.

It’s absolutely essential Vitor has on just one month seen our biggest liability and acted I think he’s going to be hot property coach and we’ll be lucky to keep him come the end of the season , especially if he reboots us He’s doing what the previous two coaches didn’t have the guts to do

Because that's not as much fun as slagging him.off. You know how Perchy works by now.

Matos is tightening up our defence already and it looks improved. But we are still leaving space behind the full backs as seen on Tuesday. Strangely little has been said as it was Galbraith there and not Key.

I did mention it but it was lost as it was galbraith, the reason EVERY team leaves space behind the full backs is in the modern game they are expected to attack, its how you cover them when they attack is tje problem.
| Stoke v Swans : The biggest test so far for Matos on 12:11 - Dec 12 with 237 views | onehunglow | Just sitting here on a glorious morning ruminating as to whether or not Matos is the one Football ensures most of us lose objectivity and we get carried away on a wave of emotion However, looking at listening to Matos , and I might be wrong , he is very different to what we have had Can he actually improve players by coaching , the very thing they are employed to do We will see but , right now, it’s encouraging When was the last truly overtly enthusiastic coach we’ve had Dunno, but he reminds me of Roberto on his early years and he’s done alright for himself Klopp thought highly of him | |

Three at the back with one covering the full back leaving two in the middle of defence is the way to counter.

Why the rush to replace? He's not having a good season, but has been fairly consistent for us before 25/26. He should be dropped from the first team I agree, but even if we bring a new right back in as first choice he would still be needed as a good cover option for the bench. I think he's probably been out most consistent weak player this season (from the established players) and it's only natural as fans we look for the weakest link and take aim as the first place that needs improvement. Just part and parcel if the game I'm afraid.
