| New signing on 18:14 - Oct 23 with 2566 views | KnavesmireBob | Another really exciting signing - if he's taking the 10 role that's some line of 3 with Middleton and Hayes either side. Think that's 30 in the squad now so whatever budget we set in August I imagine it's been well and truly spent - very grateful to the Ogdens again! | | | |

I was only thinking this week that there’s a large percentage of the budget going to long term injured players. Be that as it may, it’s great that we can attract players of this calibre. Just depends on how fit Paterson is; perhaps it would be unfair to expect an immediate impact?

Hopefully, the club have taken out insurance against players with long=term injuries but even so, the purse strings must be stretched and hope there's room for additions in January

I suspect a few will leave as well as a few new signings.

It’s a bit of a non-argument at the moment with the ridiculous injury list, but we need to be thinking primarily around departures IF we can get the likes of Pettit, East, Dieseruvwe, Maguire, EEL, Smith, TAR, Bilongo etc fit by the time the window opens. The squad is way too big, possibly out of necessity of course, but it’s not healthy (!) to bring anyone else in without someone moving out. It’s doubtful whether a 34 year old without a club would have been on the radar had Diesruvwe and Rodney been fit of course.

The likes of Dieseruvwe and Rodney might be targets for clubs in the National League. They are out of contract in the summer and look unlikely to be offered a new deal. If Flint extends his contract to the summer does EEL want to be potentially fourth choice? Might one of the midfielders be moved on if a different profile of player becomes available in that position?
| New signing on 21:23 - Oct 23 with 1891 views | jonahwhereru | IW said he was ready to play but where has he been since May. That’s a really long time to be outside a set up. Even if he has been training with a side, it wouldn’t surprise me if he took 3 weeks or more to be match fit. That aside, his pedigree is as strong as any player we have signed for some time. Welcome Jamie. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I'm quite disappointed there's been no news about Flint staying till the end of the season. Whether it's him not wanting to commit or he's looking for a longer deal or just putting himself in the shop window I don't know? Or the club are happy to see him leave in Jan if EEL gets fit? Some news would be welcome.

Think you’ve probably answered your own question there. Flint has been around long enough to realise when the optimum time is to agree a new contract. It’s a total guess but you’d think he’ll be wanting a deal that lasts through next season too. His performances illustrate that’s warranted. The big question is whether that’s with us or someone else. There could be a myriad of factors which will be determining his final choice, which is why, for now, we’ll probably have to wait a while longer. Or he’ll sign on the pitch before the game!

Flint has been absolutely brilliant and has filled a need but I am not sure Watson would be looking past this season. Flint has many attributes but with a season to identify targets would you want to go into next season with a 38 year old centre back who is probably not as good on the ball for the system we play? Next season will see a big turnover of players unless we bring in a few in January or extensions are offered to some of 'Jim's players', none of which (some down to injury) look like they have earned one. I would definitely be looking to extend Middleton, although he might be of the thinking of I will take a bit less wage wise this year to earn a better, long term deal next season. Whatever system IW chooses to play, Flint has demonstrated he's every bit as good on the ball, and prone to fewer errors, than EEL. Also, a better leader on the pitch even without the captain's armband. Also, a bigger threat at set pieces up front And that's before we get to his defensive qualities The only thing against him.is his age [Post edited 24 Oct 10:25]

That’s a reasonable analysis of Flint, it’s just that the player himself would obviously look to get as long a deal as possible. All depends what Watson wants. It’s noticeable that Flint is the one to go ‘off script’ when required and goes long, his experience playing a part then. He recognises his own limitations. Whether that fits any long term plan, the next couple of months will tell.

I would expect EEL to leave as well at the end of his contract.

True, and it helps that he's got the ability to hit a telling long ball, not just hit and hope Today might make it more of a lottery [Post edited 24 Oct 11:43]
