Given that some of the old timers were name checked, I'm surprised Ken Wolstenholme didn't get a look in. By way of coincidence, my mate and I were refreshing each other's memories on terrible football jokes last week. With apologies to those who have heard it before... A hard of hearing Eastern European historian was watching the '66 match and swore he heard Ken say.. "They think it's the capital of Moldova... Chisinau !! " Fully agree on Motson...He routinely reacted to England opening the scoring by saying " I wonder if we have scored too early"...you can't buy that level of insight. |

Hopefully the Old Bill will get him a Dominos delivered tonight to pep him up some. |

That's a new one on me... Having read the link I am absolutely astounded it didn't scoop the Oscars that year. McShane's mullet must have been a shoo-n for Best Supporting Actor. |

Don't disagree with that. The good news is that ,for the first time in a while, we seem to have experienced cover in key areas that will allow that rotation... plus the kids filling in. For example we have the following backed up slots.. RB..LB..DMF..Flanks (both)..CF So starters vs Fulham don't need to be dominated by Youth or so called " 2nd XI " |

crikey...I just googled the Apollo deal...apparently it values WFC at £350 million. Ph*q my old boots. |

To answer the original question posed...never liked WBA...away days there in the late 60's were always edgy and the very nature of the Back Country added to the shit vibe. |

I have no opinion of Wrexham FC other than to say you have to tip your hat to the two Hollywood chaps. Estimates say that the original purchase price was "nominal" given the club was completely f**ked at the time. They have put no more than £30 million into the place and recently sold a 10% slice of it to Apollo for circa £25 million... To top it off, they are in reach of the Premier league having spent bugger all, their owners are fun and visible and the club is thought to be worth north of £250 million to be used in the top flight if they get there. These are all things that cannot be said of us. |

It's a very tricky tie tbh and winning it would be in the "upset" category. Fulham are comfortable in the league and will be eyeing a big cup run to cement a really good season. To achieve that, they will probably show us some respect and field a strong team. The 6th round is when it gets serious. It will be interesting to see our priorities...first XI or young'uns ?...cup run or play-offs ?. So, nice day out by the river for sure...a victory?...not quite so sure. |

There's been a lot of chat the last couple of seasons about dressing room unrest, cliques and players performing on the basis of whether they "like" the manager or not. For me, people are confusing "like" with "respect". It is not the manager's job to be liked and it is not the player's job to either like the manager, or make him like them. The manager's job is to dictate on-field strategy, discuss the thinking behind it and "respect" the views of the players if they suggest modifications to it. The player's job is to "respect" the manager's strategy and implement it to the best of their ability whilst knowing that their opinions will always be given" respect." In the case of Jones and Still my sense was that none of that key relationship dynamic existed. In the case of Eckert, I think it does. |

Not forgetting Jelert...useful bloke too...particularly given Roeslev done for the season I believe. |
 | Forum Reply | James Bree at 08:06 16 Feb 2026
That's what I was saying, not very clearly it seems. Loaning him while playing 3 CH was dopey cos Roeslev was not a wing back. Now with Bree back and Roeslev due back, we will have good cover on our right in the back 4 set up. Sorry for any confusion. |

50% spot on....didn't Archer start on Tuesday?..If I recall it was a move not greeted with universal acclaim. |
 | Forum Reply | James Bree at 12:18 15 Feb 2026
Exactly so. I think we'll wind up with 2 quality right backs for the run in. Back up all over the team will be key. I certainly remember Bree's loan to Charlton was declared good business by many on here. But as our late Queen memorably said " recollections may vary " |

The best bit by far of that Verdict is the team photo towards the end of it. I'm assuming it is taken around 1976 and must surely have been taken while waiting for the final published version to be done (I hope) Some players are chatting with each other or looking somewhere other than the camera. Lawrie Mac looks like he just popped in still wearing his dog walking clothes and the last time I saw so much unruly hair was in a lunchtime" adults only " cabaret at the Nags Head in Whitechapel around that time. Tremendous post-match comments from Eckert I thought. |

Yep...that's what it is...from a pure reward for a great season it probably would be right just to allow 3 play 4. That ain't happening. I vaguely recall that did happen in some European leagues in the past. Also didn't some leagues have relegation play offs where the highest team in the traditional relegation slot got to play the team above them to decide the last team going down? |
 | Forum Reply | Clubs to vote on expanding the Play-Offs to 6 Clubs at 19:48 13 Feb 2026
All it really does is give the 8th placed team chance to fluke their way to Wembley and then beat the team that finished 3rd, a mere 24 points above them, in the regular season. That was the Sheff U/Millwall gap last year. |
