A lovely start for Ipswich, home to Liverpool followed by away to Manchester City.

Chelsea & Brentford at home on the 18th, so we must be away & home on the 11th.

I'm fairly sure it is Brentford that we are paired with for home/away matches.

Yes, it is Griffin Park
at 09:15 18 Jun 2024

At the risk of opening up old wounds, Denis Signy stated that the "takeover" conversation started with a discussion between Jim Gregory & the Brentford chairman as to how much larger the crowd would be if the Carlisle (or Leicester) League Cup game had been at Griffin Park.

My first experience of the ground was for an FA Cup first round match against Chesham. Due to travel problems from Ipswich (A12 & train delays are not new!) it was half time before I arrived & all the gates were shut. However, I was spotted trying different entrances & was allowed in at no cost. Brentford won 2-0.

England QPR XI
at 09:07 18 Jun 2024

I'm biased, of course, towards our side of the 70's & always judge our "stars" on whether they would have made the 75/76 squad!

My team probably wouldn't win many games as there would be a lack of defenders, but look at the footballing ability they would offer! And I've had to leave out our best goalscorer - Clive Allen.

Phil Parkes

Dave Clement
Paul Parker
Terry Fenwick
Ian Gillard

Dave Thomas
Gerry Francis
Andy Sinton

Rodney Marsh
Les Ferdinand
Stan Bowles

I didn't see the Italy Albania match, but I've enjoyed the other four games.

I thought Switzerland looked impressive for most of their match with Hungary.

I don't know when our list was submitted, but the EFL published the lists on the 7th June.

EFL Retained List

This would be my assumption as well, but I wouldn't be surprised if the club had given deadlines for agreement of a new contract. Not that we would have to have reached that date by now.

EFL Retained List
at 17:08 12 Jun 2024

I've just picked up from LFW twitter that the EFL have issued the 2024 player retained list for each club.

Begovic & Willock are missing!

Tottenham friendly tickets now on sale
at 10:15 12 Jun 2024

Thank you for posting. I hadn't realised that it had got anywhere close to being as bad as that.

Are Fulham & Brentford forgetting "to treat others kindly on the way up as they will need them on the way down"?

Would they dare...........

It would be so funny, mind you, England have to beat Namibia first!

The rain God's might interfere as well, as they did to save England in the first game.

Tottenham friendly tickets now on sale
at 20:58 11 Jun 2024

The prices for non season ticket holders looks too expensive to me & even the ST full price of £18 is higher than I would have expected.

The £13 I would have to pay is certainly reasonable & I might even consider going, though pre sesson matches don't excite me!

I assume that we have had to guarentee a payment to Tottenham of £x & that the prices reflect meeting all of the expenses.

being over charged on your card...

That is incredible!

I've never come across being asked for a tip after paying a service charge. I assume that you gave them the correct rating on Trip Adviser etc.

It's rare that I find that service has been good enough to deserve a tip.

Everywhere in the town for the past two years have been full of people wearing Ipswich shirts.

I would have thought it the right attire for a football evening.

General Election Thread
at 09:59 10 Jun 2024

Clacton did indeed have a Butlins. The town also has a small hospital that is far better than it's big brothers in Ipswich & Colchester. There endeth my praise!

Frinton has the best beach & cliff top walking in Essex/Suffolk & free parking! When the tempretures reach a reasonable level (for Britain) we take advantage of that beach as often as we can.

Jaywick has had this reputation for as many decades as I can recall & the only redeeming feature I know of is The Three Jays (at least, it was 20 years ago!). Not much too look at , but a good range of beers & a decent pub menu.

On the subject of pubs not good to look at, if any of you go to Harwich, I recommend The Alma. Spit & sawdust that does excellant food (on the dear side for the region), with a reasonable range of ales, lagers & (I think) ciders. More importantly, they cater for the locals as much as they do for us (visitors).

Living in Ipswich has a responsibility in General Elections. The seat has swung between the two parties for as long as I have lived here & the MP has normally had a good record for his constituents. I say normally as I don't regard that Tom Hunt deserves that accolade, despite his protestations on the subject!

Strangely enough, for such an important seat, I'm yet to see one person campaigning for any party! I assume that Labour & Conservatives regard the result as a forgone conclusion.

'Marquee' Rs signings who were (successful) 'statements of intent'
at 10:02 8 Jun 2024

Terry Venables, Dave Thomas, Frank McLintock & Ray Wilkins for definite.

I would also include Rodney Marsh & Stan Bowles, but I'm not certain that they were regarded as "marquee" at the time. Within a month of signing they were though!
