Billy Root plays for Notts. His number is 66. I wonder where he got that idea?

Why stop now, just when I'm hating it

Birchams 8 chelsea (bit of a cheat that one)
Aboubakar Kamara is always squad number 47.... AK47
I think Michael Ballack was always 13 because it looks like 'B' form a distance?

Apart from that ...nothing?? its a tough one NoDiddley!

What do the numbers on the shirts mean in the England team.

It's being so happy that keeps me going.

Calum Chambers should wear 36.

Joe Root's number got me thinking: why do modern Americans pronounce "route" and "router" to rhyme with "out" and "outer" when Chuck Berry clearly rhymed it with Root on the song?

Bixente Lizarazu at Bayern Munich wanted to take the number 69 for luck.

It means it’s easier to see who’s doing what on the pitch. When everyone just wore plain white shirts you couldn’t tell them apart from a distance.Especially the Aussies who all wear baggy green caps when fielding.

With global warming that might be less of an issue in the future.

Not sure who the modern Americans are but I live just a few blocks from Route 66 and drive on it quite a bit. The locals pronounce it as "root". Love the Root 66 shirt concept.

I think he means in reference to the high numbers on the shirts. They are in the 500-600's

This is the number in which they joined England and gained their first cap. So say if Root was number 500 that means 499 players have played for England before him.

All countries have them now don’t they?I do prefer having the numbers on the backs of shirts as it makes it clearer who is who.

My son's name is Blake so whenever I buy him a shirt he always gets Blake on the back with a number 7. One day he'll ask why.

A few years ago at Reading, one of their players had Waitrose on the front, and Morrison on the back.
