Not The Summer Transfer Thread 10:18 - Apr 21 with 5207 viewsspell_chekker

There's been gossip and speculation of a few possible ins and outs, even at this early stage, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Possibly because we'd like to do our business ASAP and have a good pre-season.

'Pool apparently undecided on a 'mystery' striker.

It probably means we're waiting for a definitive answer on either / or Embleton and Simms before going after the next target:

The pursuit of Gabriel is still simmering away:

Transfer Tracker: What’s the latest with Blackpool’s pursuit of Jordan Gabriel?

Nottingham Forest right-back Jordan Gabriel has been linked with a return to Bloomfield Road, after impressing in his loan spell at Blackpool last season.

Neil Critchley’s side are crying out for a right-back. Callum Connolly is the only first-team player that can be deployed there but he is traditionally a centre-back.

Reports have suggested the Nottingham Forest are willing to let Jordan Gabriel leave the club. The fee is believed to be between £300,000 and £700,000. However, if he isn’t sold Chris Hughton won’t force him away from the City Ground.

This report is backed up by the Blackpool Gazette who say Hughton is happy to let Gabriel leave if his valuation is met. Gazette reported earlier this window that the Seasiders tabled a bid for the right-back, but nothing came to fruition.

Over the weekend though, Blackpool and Sunderland who are also interested in a deal for Gabriel were handed a potential boost. The Sun on Sunday (08.08.21, pg. 67) reported that Nottingham Forest want to sign Sheffield Wednesday’s Liam Palmer and should the move go through, then Forest will allow Gabriel to leave.

Last season the 22-year-old played 27 times as Blackpool won promotion to the Championship via the play-offs, in true Blackpool fashion. The loanee shared minutes with Ollie Turton in the right-back position but after Turton’s departure for Huddersfield. This would allow Gabriel to get more game time if he returned to Bloomfield Road.

Should Blackpool pursue a move?

With only the aforementioned Connolly available at right-back, Critchley is in desperate need of an extra player.

Gabriel knows the system and what is expected of him so he would be the safe option for the Tangerines. However, if they can’t get the deal over the line, there are other options for them to pursue.

All's quiet on the Embleton front and Simms is injured. However, this one rumbles on:

It appears Forest should have sold Gabriel so they could've used the money for other deals!!

It seems that a right back and a young Arsenal player - Jordi Osei-Tutu - is playing for Forest in their League Cup match.

The speculation is that he'll go on loan to Forest and this will free Gabriel up to leave.

Keep an eye out on Forest's team selection and hope the lad plays a blinder:

Nottingham Forest are close to agreeing a deal for Arsenal youngster Jordi Osei-Tutu as their summer recruitment takes another step forward.

Full-back is an area where Reds boss Chris Hughton has been particularly short of options, and Osei-Tutu’s arrival, set to be on loan with a medical expected to take place this afternoon (Tuesday), would go some way to helping with that.

But the right side of defence remains a position where there are plenty of questions to be answered - not least what the future holds for Jordan Gabriel.

Bids remain on the table for the Nigel Doughty Academy product, from Sunderland and from Blackpool,

Forest have just signed a right back on a year long loan. Probably not to be a bench warmer:

Jordi Osei-Tutu: Nottingham Forest sign Arsenal right-back on loan

Nottingham Forest have signed Arsenal right-back Jordi Osei-Tutu on loan until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old is yet to make his first-team debut for the Premier League club, but had a loan spell with German second-tier side VfL Bochum in 2019-20.

Last season, he made nine appearances for Cardiff City but suffered a serious hamstring injury in mid-October.

He becomes Forest's second signing in four days after the addition of Philip Zinckernagel last week.

Interested in a different right back. We'll find out who on Sunday.

Possibly a striker, or maybe not as the ones we've signed seem to be working out.

Blackpool to hijack Swansea move for Manchester United's Ethan Laird?

Blackpool are reportedly preparing to hijack Swansea City's proposed move for Manchester United youngster Ethan Laird.

The Red Devils are understood to be keen to send the versatile 20-year-old out on loan for the 2021-22 season, and Swansea were thought to be at the head of the queue.

New Swans manager Russell Martin worked with Laird during his stint at MK Dons during the 2020-21 campaign, where he claimed four assists from 24 League One games.

Martin supposedly wants to reunite with Laird in South Wales later this month, but The Sun claims that Blackpool are preparing a last-ditch attempt to hijack Swansea's loan deal.

The report adds that Blackpool are keen to use the youngster as a right-back and centre-back during the Championship season, but Swansea remain optimistic about their chances of beating the Seasiders to Laird's signature.

Laird penned a new deal at Old Trafford until the summer of 2023 last year, and he has made two appearances for United's first team in the Europa League.

It seems as though Critchley and / or the club have chanced their arm (and who could blame them) on Gabriel.

The gamble hasn't worked out and it looks like we're now too late for Laird.

Other decent loans (like the Arsenal youngster to Forest last week) are likely to have already been arranged.

We're left high and dry for the moment but, I'm sure, Critch will pull a rabbit out of the hat.

Sadler knows we need a right back. It will be done.

I saw a few articles today about Laird, the Everton striker, and even Embleton.

I'd say they were never realistic and it was all simply a case of newspapers rehashing things and trying to give legs to a few stories.
