James didn't start for Wednesday, he's probably still serving a ban and will no doubt find it difficult to get back in the team with results like this.
Casey didn't start for Forest Green but came on as sub after 58 mins with the score already at 5 - 0.FG were playing 3 / 5 at the back and worryingly Casey didn't replace one of the centre halves in a failing defence. None of the centre halves were replaced during the match. Casey was a used to sub their left back.
Accrington Stanley 0 - 0 Exeter City
Doug Tharme started and played the entire match at right centre half for Stanley's back four, keeping a clean sheet in their unbeaten start to the season.
Port Vale 0 - 1 Portsmouth
Owen Dale started on the right of top of the table Pompey's midfield in a 4-4-2. He was subbed after 76 mins.

I'd say the loanees fall into 2 categories. Those we want to move on but haven't yet found a taker (on the transfer list with no was back) and those with a possibility of developing into first team a material.
To move on - Lubala, Virtue, James
To develop: Tharme, Casey and perhaps Dale.
Having said that, I'm not sure that either Tharme or Casey will eventually make our first eleven but now is their chance to impress if they want to take it.
I'm not quite sure which of the 2 groups to put Dale in but I think he can still get back in favour if he starts ripping it up at Portsmouth.

Lubala - 21st placed Colchester, with 6 from 9, have just sacked their manager.
Dale: Seems top be going well at 2nd placed Pompey.
Casey: Relegation placed FGR conceded 2 in a home defeat to Morecambe.
Tharme: A clean sheet for 17th placed Accrington at home to Cheltenham.

Lubala for Colchester. Started on the left of a front 3 (4-3-3) and was subbed after 73 in their 1-0 home defeat to Rochdale.
Dale at Portsmouth: No game
James at Sheffield Wednesday: Played 90 minutes at left centre half in a 3 at the back (3-4-3) in a 3 - 1 win at home to Wycombe.
Casey at Forest Green Rovers: Played right centre half for the full match in a 3 at the back set up (3-4-1-2). Another thumping for FGR this time 4 - 0 at home to Exeter. GD -14!!!!!
Tharme at Accrington: A clean sheet away from home in a 1 - 0 win at Bristol Rovers. GD -1. Played 90 mins.

Virtue at Lincoln: Played the full 90 as one of the 2 centre mids in a 3-4-3 in a 2 - 0 away loss a Bolton. Incidentally, Bolton are well placed in the last play off slot with a game in hand and got a gate of over 17,000.
Lubala at Colchester: Came on a a 59tyh minute sub in a 2 - 1 away loss at Wimbledon. Colchester generally play a 4-3-3.
Dale at Portsmouth: No goals and no assists Started and was subbed off in the 89th minute as Portsmouth lost 3 - 2 away at Ipswich in front of over 28,000. Colby Bishop scored 2 pens for Portsmouth.
James at Sheffield Wednesday: Played the full game on the left of a back 3 that kept a clean sheet in a 1 - 0 away win at Port Vale. i think this is an odd one - James was supposed to be a left back or wingback with us. I never dreamed he was cut out to be part of a back 3.
Casey at Forest Green Rovers: Played the entire match on the right of a back 3 in FGR's ever leaky defence. They conceded 3 this time as they lost 3 - 2 away at Burton.
Tharme at Accrington: Tharme picked up a yellow and was subbed after 75mins. Accrington continue to move up the table (now in 9th place) as they won 3 - 1 at home to Morecambe. Tharme was the right centre half of a back four and interestingly enough Accrington played in Appleton's favoured 4-1-4-1 system.

Virtue at Lincoln: In a 0 - 0 draw at home to Charlton, Virtue played the full game in central midfield as part of his team's 3-4-3 setup. The naughty boy picked up a yellow along the way.
Lubala at Colchester: Lubala was an unused sub as lower-mid-table league 2 Colchester won 2 - 1 at home to lower than lower-to-mid-table league 2 Harrogate. A real 6 pointer.
Dale at Portsmouth: with his electric form keeping Neymar, Messi and Mbappé on the bench, Pompey's golden boy played the full 90 mins and assisted in the 7th minute for Portsmouth's goal in a pulsating 1 -1 draw at home to Fleetwood. Portsmouth lie in 4th, the best of the chasing pack behind high flyers Plymouth, Ipswich and Sheffield Wednesday.
James at Sheffield Wednesday: Is he injured again? He was nowhere to be seen as Wednesday won 3 - 0 at home against Cheltenham. Ben Heneghan is Wednesday's main man at centre half . Dele-Bashiru was a sub and came on in the 65th to score .
Casey at Forest Green Rovers: Casey stood up to be counted for the full match as the right centre half in a back three that is the leakiest defence in league 1. The 4 - 0 loss at home to Exeter plumbed new depths. I'd post a link to the highlights but viewing wouldn't be recommended to under 12s and pregnant women. Their GD is -14.
Thatrme at Accrington: Tharme played the entire match and was the right centre back in a back 4 as Accrington lost 3 - 0 away at top of the table Plymouth. The gate was an impressive 15,055 - Accy probably took the 65.

Virtue at Lincoln: Played the full 90 in a handy 1 - 0 away win at Ipswich.
Lubabla at Colchester: Didn't even feature on the bench for joint bottom of L2 Colchester who went down 2 - 0 away at Swindon. I couldn't find anything about him being out because of injury, maybe he's not good enough to be part of the match day squad. Both scenarios are plausible.
Dale at Portsmouth: Subbed off straight after Portsmouth conceded their 3rd in the 67th minute as they went down to a heavy 3 - 0 away defeat at Charlton.
James at Sheffield Wednesday: Out with a mystery injury . The prognosis for his return has now worsened to an estimated "several weeks".
Casey at Forest Green Rovers: FGR's leaky defence seemed to tighten up as Casey started on the bench. Brought on in the84th minute to see out the match for a 2 - 1 away win, FGR unfortunately conceded the equaliser from a pen in the 88th min. 2 - 2 draw away at Port Vale.
Tharme at Accrington Stanley: Tharme played the whole game and picked up a yellow as Accrington got thumped 3 - 0 at home to Derby. Their good form is now a distant memory.
