38-year-old emerges on Blackpool managerial radar
AFC Barrow manager Pete Wild is the latest name to be linked with the managerial vacancy at Blackpool.
AFC Barrow manager Pete Wild is in the running to become the new Blackpool manager, according to The Sun.
Blackpool are looking for a long-term replacement for Mick McCarthy after they sacked the former Cardiff City boss last month.
Blackpool’s managerial hunt
It was confirmed last weekend that Blackpool will be back in League One next season after they suffered a 3-2 defeat to Millwall at Bloomfield Road.
It has been a poor season for the Seasiders, with the club never really getting their season going and the upheaval of manager changes throughout the season.
Blackpool decided to part ways with Michael Appleton in January and replace him with EFL veteran Mick McCarthy.
However, it wasn’t a successful appointment, and the 63-year-old left Bloomfield Road at the beginning of April having managed just two wins in 14 games.
The Seasiders decided to let Stephen Dobbie, a former Blackpool player, remain in charge of the final few games of the season. However, that appointment didn’t change much, as Blackpool were relegated.
Now the Seasiders play their final Championship game of the season away at Norwich City tomorrow afternoon, and then all focus will shift to a new manager and life back in League One.
There have been no standout candidates linked with the Blackpool job; ex-players such as Ian Evatt and Charlie Adam have been mentioned, but nothing concrete.
However, according to a report from The Sun, Barrow’s Pete Wild is said to have caught the attention of Blackpool having done a good job under a strict budget. However, it wasn’t long ago where Wild stated how settled he is with life in Barrow.
Who is Pete Wild?
Pete Wild is currently the manager of League Two side AFC Barrow, where he has managed to guide the club to a ninth-place finish in his first season in charge.
This is a far cry from last season, when Barrow managed to survive in League Two by the skin of their teeth.
Wild has previous experience in the EFL, where he managed Oldham Athletic for a short time during their battles off and on the pitch.
The 38-year-old managed to earn a reputation at National League level, where he guided Halifax Town to top-half finishes before wanting to move on from the club to try a new challenge.
Wild has managed to build a side at Barrow under strict circumstances, given that most clubs in League Two don’t have the wealth to bring numerous players in. Wild has managed to use his contacts to bring in players he has worked with before and put together a squad at Barrow that has competed very well with the big hitters.
Wild has managed to do good jobs under different circumstances wherever he has managed, and it seems his managerial talents have now impressed Blackpool.

Dundee manager Gary Bowyer installed as bookies favourite for Blackpool job — with ex-St Johnstone boss touted as replacement
Bowyer previously guided the recently-relegated club to promotion from League Two.
Dundee boss Gary Bowyer has been installed as bookies favourite to return to relegated Blackpool this summer.
And ex-St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson has been touted as a potential replacement.
Bowyer’s Blackpool link comes just days after he led the Dark Blues to the Championship trophy, making them a Premiership club once more next season.
In his first season at Dens Park, Bowyer won 54% of his matches in charge and led the club to their first title since 2014 as well as the League Cup quarter-final and SPFL Trust Trophy semi-final.
He also won two Manager of the Month awards through the campaign.
Blackpool
That success has seen his former side Blackpool take notice, according to bookmaker BetVictor.
As he did at Dundee, Bowyer led the Seasiders to an immediate return to League One after relegation to English football’s fourth tier.
Gary Bowyer led Blackpool to promotion through the League Two play-offs.
However, he resigned at the beginning of the following season before taking managerial roles at Bradford City and Salford City and then moving north of the border last year.
Blackpool are in a similar position this summer with relegation from the Championship already confirmed.
Interim boss Stephen Dobbie, well-known for his time at Queen of the South, has been in charge since Mick McCarthy left Bloomfield Road a month ago but couldn’t save the club from the drop.
Dundee manager Gary Bowyer is on a rolling contract.
Now the bookies have Bowyer as odds-on favourite to take over this summer.
BetVictor say Bowyer is 4/5 to take over ahead of Pete Wild at 4/1 and Graham Alexander and Richie Wellens at 8/1.
Bowyer and Dundee managing director John Nelms have been non-committal over the future of the club’s manager beyond the summer.
Asked about his manager’s future, Nelms said: “Let’s enjoy the win and then look at everybody and see where we are going.”

According to a report in the Scottish Sun, Dundee could target former St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson as Bowyer’s replacement.
Davidson was part of the Scotland coaching team during Gordon Strachan’s time in charge of the national side, and the Dee technical director is understood to rate the 46-year-old highly.

Meanwhile, another Dundee favourite linked with a move to Blackpool is on-loan striker Zach Robinson.
The 20-year-old finished the season as the club’s top league goalscorer with 12, including one in Friday’s 5-3 title-winning performance at Queen’s Park.
He has returned to parent club AFC Wimbledon after his successful loan spell at Dens Park and has a year left on his contract with the League Two club.
But he could be moving up the pyramid with Reading, Hull and Bolton also credited with interest in the striker, according to London News Online.

Pelach is highly respected within the industry as a top up-and-coming coach. Blackpool executives were highly impressed with his methodology and ideas and are understood to be seriously considering him for the role.
They are also interested in Neil Critchley, Leam Richardson and Barrow's Pete Wild for the vacant position with the process ongoing.
The Tangerines were relegated from the Championship last week after they suffered a 3-2 loss to Millwall, having lost 24 games this season, the most of any team in the league.

It follows Mick McCarthy's sacking, following a dismal season at the club that saw them be relegated from the Championship
The club sacked former manager Micheal Appleton back in January after the Englishman had spent less than a year in charge at Bloomfield Road.
The 47-year-old took charge of 27 matches at the club, losing 13 while winning six, seeing the Tangerines sink into the relegation zone, with the club failing to win in ten matches before his sacking, which came just ten years after he walked away from the club following his first stint in charge.
They would go on to appoint former Ireland boss Mick McCarthy, who had been out of work since he left Cardiff in October 2021.
The 64-year-old would subsequently walk away from the club after just 14 games in charge while failing to turn around their fortunes.
McCarthy would manage just two wins in 13 league games with the club, with former Blackpool player Stephen Dobbie taking the reigns in his wake.
The Tangerines are now looking to bring in a new permanent manager and Pelach could be the man to help guide them back up to the Championship next season.

During his time at Huddersfield, the 34-year-old took charge of the Terriers for one game in a caretaker position securing the clubs third win of the season against Cardiff, after the club sacked Danny Schofield.
He would take charge once again after his successor Mark Fotheringham was sacked in February, but failed to guide his team to victory, succumbing to a 1-0 loss to Wigan.
Before joining up with the Terriers, he worked as the assistant manager at Girona, where he also spent 15 years as a player.
He has also previously held head coach positions at Spanish lower third-tier sides CF Peralada UE Figueres and worked as part of Huddersfield's U23 coaching team.

Blackpool managerial update emerges as three former Seasiders part of potential four-man race
The Seasiders are considering some familiar faces according to this morning's report.
Blackpool have been "strongly" linked with a move for former boss Ian Holloway, according to this morning's Patreon story from Alan Nixon.
The Seasiders are currently in need of a permanent boss following the departure of Mick McCarthy, with Stephen Dobbie taking charge for the remainder of the 2022/23 campaign.
The names in the frame
Dobbie did a good job and is one of the names in the frame to take charge of the club on a full-time basis - but other names are also being considered at this stage.
Neil Critchley is another manager reported to be under consideration, with the former Liverpool coach leaving Bloomfield Road last summer to join Aston Villa but failing to find success in the Midlands.
He was given the chance to redeem himself at Queens Park Rangers, but he was unable to stop their decline with the 44-year-old guiding the West London side to just one win during his 12 games in charge.
Gary Bowyer, another candidate, enjoyed a much more successful 2022/23 season with the 51-year-old winning promotion with Dundee before departing the club earlier this week.
And Holloway has seemingly joined the race too, despite not being in work since 2020.
Who's the best option for Blackpool?
It remains to be seen whether Holloway would fancy another crack at management - because he's appeared on news channel GB News and the Happy Hour Podcast since leaving Grimsby Town.
That may suggest that he's looking to pursue a different path - but a return to the dugout can't be ruled out considering the 60-year-old hasn't even announced his retirement from the game yet.
Bowyer may not be the most popular option and Critchley may get a hostile reception from some if he returns considering the way he left the club, but the latter could be an excellent option and many Blackpool fans may be willing to forgive and forget.
The Seasiders' rise under him shouldn't be underestimated - and you feel he could be an asset there again if he's given the tools to make necessary changes.
Dobbie did win three of his six games in charge though - and that isn't a bad record considering the club spent much of the 2022/23 campaign in the bottom three. He still wants the job - and could potentially get it.

Following promotion to the Championship in 2021, Blackpool's stay in the second tier of English football has lasted just two seasons as they were relegated back to League One a number of weeks ago.
Both Michael Appleton and Mick McCarthy lost their jobs at different parts of the campaign, and whilst improvements were shown under interim manager Stephen Dobbie, it was too little too late as their status as a third tier club for 2023-24 is official.
The search is well underway for McCarthy's permanent replacement however, with numerous individuals touted as being the next in-line for the job.
And according to the Blackpool Gazette, a familiar face has re-emerged in the running to be the club's next manager in the form of Eric Ramsay.
Who is Eric Ramsay?
Ramsay has never been involved in senior management before but he has come through the ranks as a young coach to be one of Erik ten Hag's trusted lieutenants at Old Trafford.
Despite being just 31 years of age, Ramsay has been involved with professional football clubs since his early 20's, having become Swansea City's under-18's manager in 2015 at the age of 23 after being a coach there for a couple of years.
Ramsay moved on to Shrewsbury Town to be their academy boss in January 2017 and was promoted to first-team coach in late 2018 and even briefly became interim co-manager at Salop.
The Welshman was then headhunted by Chelsea in 2019 to become an under-23's coach, and he spent two years there before becoming a first-team coach in July 2021 under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, where he has remained to this day having been kept on by Ten Hag.
Ramsay combines his job at Old Trafford with his position of assistant head coach of the Wales national team, one he only took up a couple of months ago, but his work is clearly admired elsewhere as Blackpool tried to bring him to Bloomfield Road following Michael Appleton's sacking in January.
He turned the Seasiders down however and opted to remain with the Red Devils, although it remains to be seen what will be done if a fresh approach is made.
Who else has been linked with the Blackpool job?
A whole host of individuals have been touted as McCarthy's replacement at Bloomfield Road, with many supporters wanting ex-player Stephen Dobbie to be given the chance after a positive spell as caretaker boss.
Ex-managers Neil Critchley and Ian Holloway have both been linked as well as former Seasiders midfielder Charlie Adam for his first ever managerial role, whilst a report suggesting that Gary Bowyer was heading back to the Fylde coast to be the new manager was denied last week.
Outside names such as Huddersfield Town coach Narcis Pelach, Barrow boss Pete Wild and another former player in the form of Leyton Orient manager Richie Wellens have also been linked to the vacancy.
