It's forty years today since the greatest goal in televised history was scored at Bloomfield Road. Take a bow, Micky Walsh.

Icon? It's all Rio Ferdinand's fault.

Memory check here. And somebody pull me up if I'm wrong.
I was on the kop with my Uncle and Cousins, that much I'm sure.
The kop was full of Sunderland fans, or it seemed like that anyway.
We were 2-0 and Sunderland pulled it back to 2-2?
Did Bobby Kerr score a pen for them at the kop end?
We were just on our way out when my Uncle stopped as Walsh picked up the ball.
Remember celebrating like mad in the middle of loads of Sunderland fans.
Luckily I was only a nipper and therefore not worth beating up.

Rusty

BK missed a penalty at the Kop end didn't he - Burridge tried into onto the bar and Jimmy Hill had a strop about the programme seller trying to put BK off.

There were a lot of Sunderland fans, particularly at the front and either side of the goal. We were higher up on the West side and there were quite a lot of 'Pool up there.

What a great game that was. 2-0 up, Sunderland pull it back to 2-2, Kerr misses that penalty and Walsh bangs in a superb strike to win it. Made all the sweeter by the fact that my Dad, who I was with in the West, was (and still is) a Sunderland fan.

I've been to many, many games between then and now most of which barely register, but that one is anchored in my memory banks for good.

Real fans go to pubs like the HITW or the Welly

Me too.

I seem to remember a sea of tangerine rolling together towards the front of the stand when that went in.

Ha ha yes indeed robbie, lots of sorties were launched from that top corner. Unsuspecting away supporters arriving on site from their ascending of the Kop steps were soon on the move again. This time in a descending manner.

I was in the South just by the hospital radio commentary box as always.

Robbie,
If my memory serves me correctly. Was'nt there an alledged incident, in Vernon Humpage Shoe Shop, during Burridges tenure at Blackpool?

Was in the West Stand, virtually inline with Walsh when he struck the ball.
A few Sunderland fans in there as well.

I was on the Kop that day, at the age of 16, with my mates from school. Also withus were a a couple of my relations who were Sunderland fans. It was quite interesting as some parts of the north-east sections of my family supported Sunderland and some suppported Newcastle. We certainly celebrated the winning goal which followed a great pass out from defence (may have been from Paul Hart?) and my relations weren't too concerned as they were legless with the ale!

Robbie,
Do you not know if my recollection is correct, or are you just being inscrutable?

Robbie,
That's an Oystonesque reply. Prevarication!

Giro, you are correct. He liberated a pair of shoes and got nicked.

Since1967,
Thanks for the confirmation. The only downside is, you've let Robbie off the hook!

Is there any truth in the rumour he was only apprehended because he chose tortoise shell shoes, and it took him 5 hours to walk out of the shop!

I heard he chose a line previously modelled by Ricky Heppolette, but he couldn't turn round and move without three months noticeā€¦.

I heard they've got footwear problems, at Gloomer's.

A spokesman today said, "a couple of r soles need replacing "

That's rather good Giro and nicely topical in keeping with the times

Robbie, yes you're right Burridge saved it.
God my memory.
The bulk of that Sunderland team were the players that beat Leeds in the FA Cup Final?
Or is my memory playing tricks again?
