Blackpool's contracts situation should start to become clearer 17:08 - Jun 11 with 86 viewsBringBackTheRedRoom

Blackpool fans are likely to discover which players will be retained in the coming days, The Gazette understands.

Now a decision to end the current season has finally been made, that gives Blackpool the clarity needed to plan ahead for the 2020/21 campaign.

The club have decisions to make over a host of key players that are out of contract at the end of the season.

The Seasiders are at risk of losing top goalscorer Armand Gnanduillet and captain Jay Spearing for free this summer.

Mark Howard, Chris Maxwell, Christoffer Mafoumbi and Ollie Turton are also out of contract.

The same goes for Liam Feeney, Michael Nottingham, Sean Scannell, Yusifu Ceesay and Sean Graham.

However, the club does hold the option to extend their respective deals by 12 months should they wish to do so.

Myles Boney, Nathan Delfouneso, Jamie Devitt, Ryan Edwards, Ben Garrity, Ryan Hardie, Teddy Howe, James Husband, Sullay Kaikai, Calum Macdonald, Gary Madine, Joe Nuttall, Nathan Shaw, Jordan Thorniley, Matty Virtue, Grant Ward, Jack Sims and Adi Yussuf are all under contract.

Loanees Jak Alnwick (Rangers), Marc Bola (Middlesbrough), Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Leicester City), Ben Heneghan (Sheffield United) and Connor Ronan (Wolves) will all return to their parent clubs.

Alnwick and Heneghan are out of contract at the end of the season and will be available on free transfers.

The main question is "will he keep Spearing?".

I'm not sure Critchley will keep him.

IMO, playing Spearing, valuable as he is, means that we've got to cater to his game and build a team round him. A kind of thing where we'd have to put certain types of player around him to compensate for his weaknesses (mobility, power, running with the ball, driving forward).

It's a tough call but his limitations could hamstring the other midfielders and our style of play.

Learning to read clusters is not something your eyes do naturally. It takes constant practice.
