Bonkers! Chesterfield will have to close curtains in hospitality lounges to stop Spireites fans watching live football
Just when you thought things couldn't get any stranger, another bonkers scenario has emerged which quite possibly tops the lot.
As it stands, the National League season is (probably) going to start on Saturday with matches played behind closed doors after last week’s government annoucement.
The National League is currently in talks with the government about a financial deal which would help clubs cope without any matchday income.
In the meantime, many clubs - including Chesterfield - have announced details of how fans can watch the opening day matches online for a relatively small fee.
For example, Spireites fans can go to the Technique Stadium on Saturday to watch Chesterfield’s match at Wealdstone on the big screens in the hospitality lounges.
That all sounds very sensible, doesn’t it? But there is a twist.
Chesterfield’s first home match against Hartlepool United will be streamed online for fans to watch and the club is looking into the possibility of whether supporters will once again be allowed into the hospitality lounges to watch the game...but the CURTAINS will have to be CLOSED so people are not tempted to gather in big groups and watch the actual live game through the glass windows!
Yes, you read that right. Chesterfield fans will be sat in a room watching their team play on TV, while the ACTUAL match takes place just yards away...but the curtains will be shut!
Now I know there will have been plenty of times in the past when Blues fans would have closed the curtains even if Chesterfield were playing in their back garden...but this takes the biscuit!
