The Seasiders’ match with Swindon Town on Saturday has been selected to be a part of the ongoing ‘return of fans’ pilot programme, meaning that 1,000 supporters will be able to watch the game live in Bloomfield Road.

After careful consultation with the SLO, the Club has decided to invite season ticket holders based on the order in which they purchased/renewed their season tickets.

Supporters who are invited to the game will receive an email by 5pm on Thursday which will include a print at home ticket. This will be the only way to enter the stadium.

Those supporters attending the game will also receive an additional communication containing further important match day information including a Code of Conduct for games at a socially distanced stadium, which is also available here.

Should anyone not be able to attend the game at this short notice, please contact the Club Shop at tickets@blackpoolfc.co.uk as soon as possible and no later than 5pm on Friday. We will arrange for an iFollow code to be sent to you. The Club will then endeavour to allocate this seat to another season ticket holder.

Season ticket holders who are not attending the game will receive an iFollow code to watch the match. The codes will be emailed by 5pm on Thursday. iFollow FAQ’s can be found here.

Should any supporters require any further assistance with any of these matters, the Club Shop will be open from 10am until 4pm on Thursday and Friday, and from 10am until 1pm on Saturday.

Simon Sadler said:

“It is testament to the continued hard work of all the staff that we were in a position, at very short notice, to apply for and to be selected to be one of the pilot games. It is a further sign of how far we have come during my period of custodianship. I look forward to having supporters back in Bloomfield Road at 3pm on Saturday”.

Blackpool vs Swindon Town Prediction & Betting Tips

Swindon Town make the trip to Bloomfield Road Stadium on Saturday for the League One game with home team Blackpool.

Form Guide
Blackpool WDLDDL

Blackpool will be hoping for a better result after the 1-0 League One losing effort in their last game against Plymouth Argyle.

Luke Jephcott (3') was the scorer for Plymouth Argyle.

Blackpool have been quite ineffective in attack in more recent games. Their sum of goals equals just 3 against opponents over their last six fixtures. In those meetings, The Seasiders have also seen the number of goals scored against them come to 4.
Swindon Town WWLLLW

Swindon Town will go into this encounter following on from a 3-1 League One win vs Rochdale in their most recent game.

For Swindon Town, the goalscorers were Tyler Smith (4'), Anthony Grant (33') and Matt Smith (41'). Jimmy Keohane (93') scored for Rochdale.

Illustrating their penchant for productive encounters, the back of the net has been hit 21 times in the previous 6 matches in which Swindon Town have played, giving a mean average of 3.5 goals per fixture. Their opponents have hit 10 of those goals. Previous results aside, it remains to be seen whether the trend will persist in this next game or not.

Going into this encounter, Swindon Town have not been beaten in their last 2 league matches away from home.

Head to head

If we look at their past head to head duels stretching back to 18/09/2004, there has been little to separate the clubs with Blackpool winning 1 of those games, Swindon Town 1 and 4 being draws in normal time.

A combined sum of 12 goals were scored between the two sides in this period, with 6 of them from The Seasiders and 6 belonging to The Robins. That is an average goals per game value of 2.

The last league game featuring the two was League One match day 32 on 20/02/2016 when it finished Swindon Town 3-2 Blackpool.

The match was refereed by Phil Gibbs.

Team News: Blackpool

Blackpool boss Neil Critchley has a full complement, with no fitness concerns at all ahead of this game thanks to a completely injury-free squad to pick from.
ℹ️ Team News: Swindon Town

Due to a fully healthy group to pick from, Swindon Town boss Richie Wellens does not have any fitness concerns to speak of ahead of this game.

Prediction

In our opinion, Swindon Town will have to work hard as a team to get anything against this Blackpool outfit who we think will likely score one, at least.

We therefore fancy a very even match with a 1-0 win for Blackpool at the end of the 90 minutes.

We’ll see what happens.

Opposition Report: Swindon Town

Blackpool aim to bounce back to winning ways on Saturday as they welcome Swindon Town to Bloomfield Road.

Swindon, who earned promotion back to League One last season after a two year absence, will come into the game full of confidence, after their 3-1 opening day victory over Rochdale.

An encouraging performance against Plymouth Argyle will give Neil Critchley’s charges some positives to take, as they look to respond after a narrow 1-0 defeat at Home Park. The Seasiders will also be looking to extend their unbeaten record against Swindon Town at Bloomfield Road, with their last defeat coming in 1979.

The Visitors

Despite an unexpected end to an impressive 19/20 season, Swindon finished their League Two campaign strongly with one defeat from their last six matches.

A busy summer transfer window has seen Richie Wellens make nine new additions to his squad, adding some experience and talent to their ranks ahead of a challenging season back in League One.

Former Portsmouth forward Brett Pitman adds quality in the final third, whilst Jonny Smith, Tyler Smith and Matt Smith all joined the club on a season long-loan. Talented winger Diallang Jaiyesimi also made a permanent switch to the County Ground from Norwich City, after an impressive loan spell last season.

Much like Blackpool, Swindon had a mixed run of results in their pre-season. A 3-1 defeat to Lee Bowyer’s Charlton Athletic saw the Robins crash out of the Carabao Cup at the first hurdle, whilst an entertaining 3-2 defeat saw them miss out on gaining a bonus point against West Bromwich Albion Under 21’s in the EFL Trophy. Though, Wellens’ side will be full of confidence after impressive performances against Championship opposition Bristol City and Coventry City, beating the latter 2-1 at the County Ground in August.

The Manager

A familiar face to Blackpool supporters, Richie Wellens was appointed manager of Swindon Town in November 2018, replacing Phil Brown.

Prior to his arrival, the Robins struggled to start the 18/19 campaign strongly, with just one win in eight games seeing them slip to 17th place in League Two. Brown, who led Hull City to the Premier League in 2008 for the first time in the Club’s history, was eventually replaced by Wellens — who was dismissed from his position at Oldham Athletic a few months before, following the club’s relegation to League Two.

Though, the former Blackpool fan favourite led the Robins to promotion after an impressive 19/20 season, finishing top of the table on points per game and scoring the second most goals in the league. The 40-year-old will be hoping he can make it a day to remember on his highly-anticipated return to Bloomfield Road.

Score: 4-1 - We'll come out of the blocks aggressively (like against Everton) and score a couple early on.

Which, I'd imagine will be our lowest ever league attendance.

What's out lowest ever attendance for a competitive first team match in all competitions? We must have a few under 1,000 in the Leyland DAF thing.

Match Preview: Swindon Town (H)

Blackpool host Swindon Town in their 20/21 League One curtain raiser at Bloomfield Road on Saturday.

The Seasiders will be looking to get their first victory of the season after their opening day clash against Plymouth Argyle ended in a narrow defeat. Jerry Yates, CJ Hamilton and Keshi Anderson all came close for the Seasiders in an encouraging display, but Luke Jephcott’s early opener proved to be the difference between the two sides.

Swindon, meanwhile, will be coming to Bloomfield Road full of confidence after they marked their return to League One in style. The Robins put three past Rochdale to get their season off and running in a comfortable 3-1 victory at the County Ground.

Sheffield United loanee Tyler Smith opened his account for Swindon Town inside five minutes, before Anthony Grant and Matt Smith put the hosts in cruise control at the interval. Rochdale did manage to pull one back through Jimmy Keohane’s late strike, but the visitors were outclassed by a clinical Swindon performance.

Neil Critchley

"Hearing the news that 1,000 fans are coming back to Bloomfield Road on Saturday has given us a tremendous lift. We’re really looking forward to it and hopefully our staff and players can give them something to be proud of, it’ll be great to share it with them again.

"It’ll be a tough test. Playing any newly-promoted team at this stage is difficult because of the momentum they’ve built up from last season. They had a good victory last week, they’ve got a really way of playing attacking football and like to pass the ball like we do, so it’ll be a good game of football.

"Hopefully, we can play in a similar vein that we did last weekend and look to pick up a result this time."

Richie Wellens

"It’ll be a tough game. I imagine they’ll be expecting to be right up there at the end of the season.

"We played well last weekend, so it’s important we look to build on that. Brett Pitman has been brilliant in training this week, you can see why he has the record that he has and he’s going to score goals. We can certainly cause them problems on the day and that’s what we’ll be looking to do."

Team News

Oliver Sarkic has recovered from his injury, whilst James Husband is also being monitored ahead of Saturday’s clash.

As for the visitors, defenders Akinwale Odimayo and Mathieu Baudry have both been ruled out for the visit to Bloomfield Road.

Watch The Game Live

Following EFL’s permission, Saturday’s match will be a Pilot Event for Blackpool supporters. 1000 supporters will be admitted into Bloomfield Road.

The remaining 3000 Season Ticket holders have been sent an iFollow promo code to watch the game.

PREVIEW: BLACKPOOL (A)

With matchday two of the 2020-21 League One campaign just over 24 hours away, we take a look this weekend’s opponents — Blackpool.

The Tangerines had a tough start to the season, travelling to newly promoted Plymouth Argyle.

Their 642-mile round journey did not yield any opening day points, as an early goal from Argyle’s Luke Jephcott undone Neil Critchley’s side.

Blackpool will host the Town in their 17,338-capacity home ground Bloomfield Road, which has been chosen as being one of only ten stadiums in the country to host 1000 fans in the return of the Fans Pilot Scheme.

The hosts will sport their traditional orange home kit for the fixture with white shorts and orange socks.

Town will be up against a familiar face in former number nine, Jerry Yates who signed for the Seasiders from Rochdale in July.

Yates played a pivotal role in Town’s promotion as champions of League Two last season, scoring 14 goals and one assist in 35 appearances. Town will also be up against Keshi Anderson who also signed for Blackpool in July.

It will be the first domestic meeting between the sides since 2016, when Swindon beat Blackpool 3-2 with Nicky Ajose netting a hat-trick for the Reds.

There have been 36 meetings in League football between the two clubs with Swindon victorious in 12 of those, while Blackpool have only managed to get the upper hand on seven occasions — there have also been 17 draws between the two sides so expect another close contest.

Interestingly, between 17th August 2002 and 17th December 2005, neither Blackpool nor Swindon secured the three points over one another, with the spoils being shared in all eight matches in League One and Two.

On the topic of stale mates, both sides have an equal record over each other in the last five fixtures between the two clubs.

In the last five meetings, there has been one win for both clubs and three draws:

- 20th February 2016: Swindon Town 3-2 Blackpool
- 3rd October 2015: Blackpool 1-0 Swindon Town
- 17th December 2005: Swindon Town 0-0 Blackpool
- 20th August 2005: Blackpool 0-0 Swindon Town
- 15th January 2005: Swindon Town 2-2 Blackpool

Swindon represent a second consecutive League match against a promoted club for Blackpool and will be going into the game while riding on the wave of momentum from last Saturday’s 3-1 victory against Rochdale.
