Form Guide
Peterborough United: WDWWDL

Peterborough United will be wanting a better result here after the 2-0 League One defeat in their last game at the hands of Crewe Alexandra.

Harry Pickering (29') and Charlie Kirk (41') scored for Crewe Alexandra.

It’s been seldom in recent times where Peterborough United have kept a clean sheet. The facts show that The Posh have failed to prevent opponents from scoring in 5 of their previous 6 matches, shipping 7 goals along the way.

Ahead of this meeting, Peterborough United have not been beaten in their last 11 home league matches. It's been impressive.

Blackpool: LWLWWW

Blackpool will go into this meeting after a 3-0 EFL Trophy win with the downing of Leeds United U23's in their last outing.

The trend of at least one side getting a clean sheet in games featuring Blackpool has become evident of late. A glance at their last six outings shows that this has happened 5 times. In those clashes, their opponents have hit a goal aggregate of 3 while The Seasiders have scored 7. We will just have to see if that trend will end up being continued on here.

Ahead of this clash, Blackpool haven't been defeated by Peterborough United when having played them away from home in the previous 2 league games.

Head to head

Looking at the statistics for their head to head meetings dating back to 08/05/2016, both clubs have shared the honours with Peterborough United winning 2 of those games, Blackpool 2 and 2 being draws after 90 minutes of play.

In all, 21 goals were produced between them in these games, with 12 from The Posh and 9 netted by The Seasiders. That’s an average goals per game of 3.5.

The previous league fixture featuring these clubs was League One match day 17 on 02/11/2019 when it finished Blackpool 4-3 Peterborough United.

The referee was James Oldham.

Team News: Peterborough United

Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson will be grateful not to have any fitness worries at all before this clash thanks to a fully injury-free group available to choose from.

Team News: Blackpool

Owing to a fully injury-free squad to pick from, Blackpool boss Neil Critchley has zero fitness worries at all ahead of this clash.

Prediction

When taking all factors into account, Blackpool will likely create enough chances to breach the defence of this Peterborough United side, but it isn’t expected to be as many as they will have scored against them.

We can see a very close game with a 2-1 victory for Peterborough United when the full-time whistle blows. Let’s wait and see how it plays out.

Opposition Report: Peterborough United

A Detailed Look At Saturday's Hosts.

Blackpool will be looking to build on their impressive run of form this weekend, as they return to League One action against Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon.

Peterborough, who sit top of the League One table, will be looking to bounce back this weekend, as they suffered first defeat in twelve matches against Crewe Alexandra.

Neil Critchley’s side will be full of confidence and looking to claim their third consecutive victory in League One, after previous victories against Burton Albion and Wigan Athletic. The Seasiders also progressed in the FA Cup and Papa John’s Trophy, after claiming victories over Eastbourne Borough and Leeds United’s Under-21’s respectively.

The Hosts

After narrowly missing out on the play-off places last season, the Posh have started the 20/21 season in fine form as they look to build on their foundations from last campaign. Darren Ferguson’s side have won six of their last seven games in League One, and remain unbeaten at the Weston Homes stadium since September.

Ferguson has had a busy summer in the hope of guiding his side towards the play-offs this time around. Jonson Clarke-Harris joined from League One counterparts Bristol Rovers to bolster the Posh’s attacking options, whilst Sammie Szmodics also joined the ranks from Bristol City. The Club also managed to keep hold of their star man, Siriki Dembélé.

Key Player

A talented forward known for his blistering pace, Dembélé joined the Posh from Grimsby Town in 2018. A former product of the Nike Football Academy, the 24-year-old has already netted six goals in all competitions this season, including a hat-trick against Shrewsbury Town in October.

The Manager

A familiar face to the Peterborough United faithful, Darren Ferguson was appointed as Peterborough United manager for the third time in 2019, having previously managed the club on two other occasions.

The 48-year-old, who is the son of former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, made over 250 appearances for Wrexham in his playing career, before retiring in 2007 to pursue his coaching ambitions.

In his first spell at the club, Ferguson led the Posh to automatic promotion to the Championship, before joining Preston North End in 2010 after leaving the club by mutual consent.

Currently in his third spell at the Weston Homes Stadium after the dismissal of Steve Evans, Ferguson will be hoping to repeat history for the second time this season and gain promotion to the second tier of English football with a talented squad at his disposal.

Blackpool's tactics have surprised Peterborough United manager

Peterborough United boss Darren Ferguson is expecting a tough test from a resurgent Blackpool tomorrow — and admits he is surprised by their formation.

Like Blackpool and all League One clubs, Posh face a hectic programme in the run-up to Christmas, with nine games scheduled to be played in the space of 28 days.

Ferguson’s players have won eight of their first 12 games and are a point clear at the top of League One, though they are looking to bounce back from their 2-0 defeat at Crewe Alexandra last weekend.

The Posh boss said: “It’s a busy spell but we’ve managed the players well between games and we’ll have to keep doing that.

“It’s a tough game at the start of the run as Blackpool have hit some form.

“They were expected to do well this season after signing a lot of good players in the summer, but it took them a while to get going which can happen when you recruit a lot of players.

“Blackpool have played 4-4-2 in their last three games and won them all, so I expect the same formation and the same style of play this weekend.

“They will put plenty of balls into our penalty area towards Gary Madine, who is a real handful.

“I’m surprised they are playing like that but the manager has clearly looked for a different formula after a slow start and it’s been working for them.

“They have two dangerous wingers as well. CJ Hamilton is rapid, so he will need watching.”

Ferguson is focusing on his own side as he prepares for a demanding test tomorrow.

He added: “As always for us, it will be about how we play and we need redemption after a poor performance last week.

“We need to bounce back quickly to get over that, but we are still averaging over two points per game which is promotion form.

“We are very comfortable at home, so I am confident of a good performance and we’ll need one against very strong opponents.”

As you all know, I'm so happy nthat we've got a real handful up top and we can put balls in the box to him.

The extra advantage is that we've got the little 'un, Yates, to play along side him.

Let's hope he can be a pest / Make a nuiscence of himself.

In 7th heaven with this approach to the game.

Thanks Neil.

HT 0-1 up. Considering that Peterboro are top, that's the best we've played so far this season. Can't think of one, even half chance they've had.
