I'm on holiday in southern Crete and was walking past what was clearly a locals' bar when I espied a telly high up in one corner, its screen filled with the tell-tale bright green grass of - yes - a football match. All the occupants - and they ranged from about 10 to over 80 - were glued to the screen; it was Villa against Olympiakos. Suddenly, Olympiakos score and there is uproar, but wait, the goal looks suspiciously like it's offside. The inevitable VAR check follows, then cue pandemonium: the goal stands! 0-1. We're looking through the window at this moment of pure joy - a nerdy-looking kid at the front of the assembled throng is on his feet and bouncing around waving his arms - when a middle aged woman walks up to us and peers through the window to try to make sense of the cheering and scenes of jubilation. She only pauses for a second, then walks on past, silently. Mrs R from Afar turns to me and says: "She was wearing an AEK Athens jacket". |

You beat me to it. I think it should be shared, I think they were all great and I can't remember the last game when everyone played at such a high level and as such a cohesive unit. |

He's been amazing 👏 The board deserves a lot of credit for bringing him in, although I'll willingly accept that they've made lots of mistakes in the past. I think I heard it on Sky but apparently, Marti handles the attacking side of the coaching and Xavier Calm the defensive bit. Hats off to Mr Calm too, then - and the other coaches - we are so much more solid defensively now, mercifully. |

I was surprised how easy it was for Chair to cut inside when he scored our first. Like most if not all of you, I should imagine, I knew he was likely to do it but it looked to me as if the Leeds players either hadn't been told he likes to do that or had ignored their coaches' warnings about it. Still, never mind |

Impressive When I was playing colts cricket, our league games were 15 x 8 ball overs a side, even though we were in England, not Australia. I think 8 ball overs were stipulated because fewer overs meant less time wasted moving fielders and umpires around. Anyway, our opening bowler, a left arm medium fast type, started an over but after his first ball, the umpire, who had been provided by the opposition, warned him that his run up was too long. Limited length run-ups were another thing designed to save time so the side batting second didn't need to use head torches. There was even a line marked behind each set of stumps indicating the maximum permitted run-up. Our bowler duly shortened his run-up and then something amazing happened, and I swear this is true: He took six wickets in six balls, all clean bowled! It was truly incredible and I bet their umpire felt partly to blame. |
