End of Term Report 23/24 – Defenders
at 21:40 20 May 2024

While I’m hesitant to fall into the category of “nothing to moan about so at each others throat instead” QPR fandom, picking out Steve Cook from this group to criticise is absolutely wild. After the charlatans we’ve been through historically, and in the last two years especially, he’s quite literally everything we’ve always said we want in our players.

Oxford the selfish pick - close, small budget, not likely to finish higher than 20th at best. But would like to see Bolton back after the dark times they’ve had

You’re obviously a troll pal, if you’ve been here for any length of time you’d have known Clive runs a patron because - plot twist - nothing in life is free and monetising content is literally the bedrock of the modern internet (you know, the thing that allows you to type hateful messages from the safety of your four walls like a coward).

No ones bothered about your f’in opinion mate, it’s that you immediately responded to the OP with hate mail to the guy who keeps this whole thing going and has created a community off the back of it. He’s thrown a kettle over a pub, what have you done?

Players we should have kept

On a par with Hughes for me, didnt get anywhere near enough criticism from us/the general public at the time. Did an absolutely woeful job, saved only by Bobby’s left foot.

The one that always angered me was Danny Simpson. Goes to Leicester, stays up and wins the prem, meanwhile we sign Isla to play RWB…for three games before going back to a 4. Cheers Arry, absolute fraud

A midfielder who doesn’t score goals, assist goals, win duels, or help with set pieces is largely ineffective? Curious

Edit: but he is of course a baller and we’re all gammons for saying otherwise, sincerely pre pubescent teens who “know ball”

Championship Playoffs - who's going up?
at 07:16 9 May 2024

Think the winner of WBA Saints wins it, would like it to be WBA but Southampton have a bit of the 13/14 Rs about them in terms of just so much depth that should get them over the line even if they’ve been underwhelming at both ends of the season.

Rohl is probably a “hotter” appointment right now, and this Hull ownership look like they want to be seen, heard and the rest so wouldn’t be surprised if they test Chansiri’s mettle/Rohl’s ambition.

Definitely not rationalising to avoid worrying they come for Marti.

Edit: Rohl already lives up there…

Pretty simple equation - spend a hell of a lot (especially on dead weight expensive loans) + no promo = sack. See, albeit a lesser scale, QPR 21/22.

Brum is a good shout. Sort of manager who would be crap on a shoe string, good when they have the right tools (ergo a wad of cash). Bit of a Russell “play b is do plan a better” Martin type.

Thankful for our mixed style Marti!

Only just read the article - is there any question in which Nourry doesn’t refer to the game model? The questions about the water pressure and pie flavours in October’s fan forum are about to get a hell of a lot more note worthy - “after undertaking extensive data analysis on optimal faucet pressure, we’ve decided on a mid- to-low number based on the selected game model for fan hand washing”. I work in consulting and this is getting a bit w@n£y even for me…

All the best Ozzie, hope he has a good rest of his career in lower leagues.

Need to learn our lesson from Dieng/Dickie/Willock and sell now while his stock is high. All it takes is one injury and he’s suddenly worth little again. Upwardly mobile clubs are good at selling players, listening to the “show some ambition” brigade will not make us better it will make us worse.

Great performance. Think he needs a year under his belt at L1/2 and get experience - Dieng at Doncaster e.g.. Putting him in as no1 too early could be damaging, 22 is so young for a keeper

On them - massive loss that they’re losing O’Hare, fantastic footballer. Their RB is exactly the sort of player we need as an option, pace and threat

That second goal is purely from Andersen’s quality of delivery, such a weapon and a huge reason we’re out of the shi*

Dunne the lynchpin clearly, but so good to see Field being a genuine goal threat. So many of us, none more than Clive, have been calling for Field to improve in oppo box and feels like this season has been a real watershed for him. So glad he’s extended, if he can get another 5-8 goals from CM next season he is suddenly a real asset at this level - goals + always fit, defensively excellent would certainly see interest especially if the new tv money restores the 3-6m player sales bracket that really screwed us over post Covid.

Are we capable of going up next season.
at 16:11 30 Apr 2024

Of course it’s a (remote) possibility, but we’re all kidding ourselves if you genuinely think we will go up or be in the top 6 next season. All the usual problems remain, but we’ve landed on a special manager who is able through good coaching and tactical awareness to win games through his decision making - a trait I haven’t seen in an R/s gaffer since NW and even then he had Adel.

Progression after the cluster f*** of Beale-NC-Gaz for me would be: 14-8th, playing good football recruiting under the buy-to-sell model, seeing some youngsters (Kolli / SA) developing here or on loan, and making more strides off the pitch (love what they’ve done with away tickets at LR e.g.).

If you’re expecting more I think that’s unfair given where we have been for nearly two years!

Wouldn’t mind Sorba Thomas either. Brilliant dead ball, would fit in well on right and can play RWB too. Can then rotate him and smyth with a consistent system and approach (and some final ball improvement)

Who do we want to get relegated?

Assuming at least one of if not both Norwich and Hull need something to make sure they can get in play offs or confirm their place, can’t see both Birmingham and Plymouth beating them personally! But of course not over

Between Birmingham and Plymouth now. Norwich and Hull on final day respectively. Stomach churners those games!
