Some good news anyway....
at 11:28 25 Jul 2014

As we consider George's injury and the need to revive the Spirit of 74/75, when Roy McFarland sat out almost the whole season to return in the title clinching match at Leicester, there's good news here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28482377

Now everyone knows we have a top Academy, something F*rest are years away from, and which will help us get in good youngsters & loanees from all quarters.

Well done to Darren & his team!

Suarez - FIFA shows its teeth
at 15:44 26 Jun 2014

Brilliant but barmy cannibal footballer Luis Suarez has finally bitten off more than he can chew with his attempt to devour an opponent in front of the World Cup's global TV audience. Big ban & fine imposed by FIFA.

Story here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/28023882

It's a sad reflection of the quality of the match officials at the tournament that no action was taken against Suarez during the match.

He needs some CBT now, (& dental attention); it seems that Liverpool now need a Champions League striker.

If Suarez had committed his latest such offence in Liverpool's colours, would the club have been big enough to cancel his contract?

As he might be technically in breach of his club contract anyway, could this happen?

Rams Squad 2014-15: the fun starts here!
at 12:06 25 Jun 2014

With July approaching and the Rams' second bid for George Thorne of WBA having been rejected, the "players in/out speculation" is gathering pace.

The other side of Derby's squad-building challenge is here:

http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/Derby-County-reject-Burnley-bid-midfield-star/st

Maybe considering Bryson's situation at the time he signed for Derby, the alleged contract clause is not unreasonable.

He was a promising young midfielder (albeit without a track record of scoring goals), joining an ordinary Championship club.

His agent did his job as the clause (if it exists) was put in to protect both parties' interests (player & club), but it doesn't direct the value of any actual transfer that might take place.

He's worth what George Thorne is to West Brom, I reckon - and isn't that how teams like Burnley & Southampton have built promotion-winning teams too?

Bryson sacrificed for Thorne? Would we have won the play-off final if he had been picked in the first 11?

Is anyone else awake out there to make any comment during this very quiet football summer?

Wanchope & Costa Rica - set to stuff England & then march on!
at 10:39 21 Jun 2014

Paulo & his pals have been very impressive in the World Cup so far.

Maybe England will have a chance of restoring some pride if CRC play some reserves against them, but I reckon lots of Rams fans will be rooting for Costa Rica now.

Telegraph's take here:

Clogger Brown & Green released by Dirties
at 22:19 17 May 2014

Annual Championship "flop team" Leeds Utd have released several players, including Michael "Clogger" Brown, who's job in his last game for the Dirtie was to kick Will Hughes black & blue, ex-Rams midfielder Paul Green & "gobber" Al Haj Diouf.

Wonder if Cloughie at Sheff Utd. will consider Green - he'll surely have a list drawn up by now...

Rams' new sponsorship deal "reveal" soon
at 15:01 9 May 2014

Derby County have secured another "significant" sponsorship deal for next season; according to John Vicars, which wil be formally announced tomorrow.

Hopefully it will keep Derby ahead of the game regarding the Financial Fair Play rules, especially when considering the investment in players & wages that might be needed next season.

All positive news, I reckon, though perhaps not so for those Nellies who still blanch at the very thought of stadium naming rights and maximising the club's income.

Natalie hikes up with Sam & John
at 15:53 2 May 2014

BBC's one-time Davies devotee, reporter Natalie Jackson, has finally seen the light and now clings limpet-like to the dynamic (off-field) Derby duo of Sam Rush & John Vicars.

During their threesome hike in the hilariously murky Peak District, our gal fawns fairly convincingly at the Rams' own heady heights - although is there still a trace of a tear there for Wee Billy, or was the weather that bad?

Hector, Davies,Ramage & other stars in Lullaby Trust charity game
at 19:24 24 Apr 2014

City-based Rams fans have the chance this weekend to see the great Kevin Hector & other Rams legends in action - they're on the All-Stars' team sheet in a charity match at University of Derby in support of the Lullaby Trust, a charity that works to raise awareness of the "cot death" syndrome.

Article here: http://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/Derby-County-legends-star-tragic-baby-Chloe-cot/

...and the Lullaby Trust's website link is here: http://www.chloeslullaby.x10.mx/derby/

It's a cause that certainly deserves a big turnout.

I'm sure that Rams fans will want to wish ex-Rams Welsh international wing wizard all good wishes for a speedy recovery, as he's reported to have suffered a suspected stroke:

Jake "Buckanbauer" wins Supporters' Club Rams' POYR 2013-14

Jake Buxton, arguably Nigel Clough's most lowly signing, has been voted Player of the Year 2013-14 by DCFC's Supporters' Club.

Official story here:

http://www.dcfc.co.uk/news/article/buxtons-delight-at-award-150414-1489719.aspx

Congrats to Bucko, one of the most loyal, honest & dedicated footballers ever to wear a Derby County shirt.

What price human dynamo Craig Bryson to pick up the general fans' vote now?

Football remembers the 96 - You'll Never Walk Alone
at 14:57 15 Apr 2014

The football community unites today on the 25th Anniversary of the Hillsborough disaster.

The annual Remembrance Service at Anfield is especially poignant this year, with the ongoing inquest into the deaths of the 96 Liverpool fans suspended as a mark of respect but hopefully bringing long-overdue justice for victims & families in due course.

Overview here:

http://www.theguardian.com/football/2014/apr/15/thousands-to-attend-anfield-memo

Last night, BBC 5Live's Mark Pougatch presented a special programme to examine how survivors and witnesses were affected by the events of that day:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b040j0rr

I hope all Rams fans will take a minute of their time today to think of those who never returned from their football match, and how the tragedy has affected families & friends of those lost.

20 up for Chris - best free transfer?
at 12:01 10 Apr 2014

Well done to Chris Martin for scoring 20 goals this season and also for taking so much stick, physical & verbal, from all & sundry - meathead opponents & their miserable, conniving managers, bad referees and even some terminally-negative Rams fans.

Lest we forget, see the link below - he cost NOWT! A tough, intelligent and persistent player.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/22452882

Who are the other candidates for best Rams free transfer in recent seasons?

Mr Martin, we salute you!

Justice is edging closer for the Hillsborough 96
at 15:48 1 Apr 2014

With this week's ruling to conduct individual inquests into the deaths of the 96 football supporters who died in the crush at the 1989 FA Cup Semi-Final, justice for the victims & their families moves a step closer.

It's shamefully taken a quarter of a century for some of those people responsible to be even concerned about being finally held to account.

BBC report here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-merseyside-26826080

Reminder to Rams fans - as a mark of respect on the 25th anniversary of the disaster (and in common with all PL & Championship games over the weekend 11-13th April), the Rams' home match against Huddersfield Town will kick-off at 15:07pm.

Psycho rejects Reds' job?
at 11:21 27 Mar 2014

Contrary to earlier rumours that Stuart Pearce could be appointed as stop-gap manager at the Reds' dump following the dumping of Davies, Sky reports that he's turned it down:

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11727/9234623

Maybe owner Al Hasawi's promise that the new manager would have a close connection to the club won't now be met...the "opportunity" already having been rejected by non-Reds "legend" Neil "Colin" Warnock.

Update here:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26766771

The old song "Who Can I Turn To?" seems rather apt here....
