David I think if he doesn't start the season well we have brought a duffer!

He is a player who needs service and to use his pace to get in behind defences. If you don't have the players to do that, and right now, neither Ireland or us have those, then he is up against it. Strangely at Peterborough he had that the whole time.

It will be essential this season because we have Washington and Petrasso, who both have a lot of pace and Polter is much quicker than people think.

Never knowingly right.

This is a baptism of fire and so far he's not been able to get into these Euro games any more than he was able to get into Championship games at the end of the season.

He's scored as many as Harry Kane & Ronaldo

Seriously he has done as well as could be expected given quality of opposition.

working the front line single handed against the world champions with the rest of his team camped on the edge of their area...

not really the game to judge him!

we should be grateful that he is getting a run and playing a part in something huge for NI; good luck to him.

I've been impressed with him. I like his runs off the ball and I like that he knows when to take men away with second runs.

Germany had 79% possession, not sure what Washington is really supposed to do with that...

Good to see the Twitter banter between him and Polter though - that's a promising sign that the squad is developing some character.

He didn't start the first game but came on as sub and immediately improved the side.

The manager has since picked him to start. The media think that he gives the Northern Irish team an outlet up front and chases lost causes.

There was one counter attack where Washington just needed to be sent through by Jamie Ward, but the selfish bar steward decided to shoot instead.
