Pins in new shirts. There used to be about 10 of the little buggers. You could never be entirely sure you’d found all of them.

There’s a railway bridge in Bow which still has George Davies is innocent painted along the top, albeit very faded.

Where I lived, if you wanted to be "hard" (translation for our younger readers: 1970s slang for "cool"), you simply had to have cow horns. All my bikes sported the factory fitted handlebars

RFA

I recall the expression “ keen” from those days, as in, if you had something like a BSA Gold Star, people would say “ that's a keen bike “

I know people think that their “ day “ was the best, but when you see zombies staring into their devices as they bump into people on the pavement or wandering off into oncoming traffic, you tend to pity them !

Cowhorns - love it !

Look a lot smaller and less wide than I recall.

Do remember some big 'hard lads' chasing me and some mates away from a park in Hayes as kids, they came at us fairly rapidly on bigger bikes decked out with massively expansive cow horns so we dipped down a small ally and were mightily relieved as the pursuit halted due to said cow horns exceeding the width limit of the alleyway.

SpudULike, although there are two branches left, in Woking and Harrow, according to the website.

X-ray specs.

Turtle doves. Numbers are down 94%. My friend's young daughter said: "We can't lose them, they're in a song!"

RFA

Hardly surprising turtle dove numbers are down, with the Maltese, Greeks, Italians and French shooting them indiscriminately on their migration routes all in the name of sport.

Apart from the one outlet in my old home town of Horsham, do Wimpey bars still exist anywhere else, or has Horsham been mothballed in some kind of time capsule?

Kids on home built go-karts. Used to love creating these with my mates back in the day and having local races with other kids.

There aint half been some clever bastards.

What a feckin toy.

For some strange reason, there is a Wimpy (no BenderBurgers) on fairly posh Ruislip High Street.

Some pubs sell all their beers at the same temperature, it kills Real Ales in particular as well as stout. Just laziness on their part. As you say, the old Lunchtime O'booze has gone with many pubs empty at lunchtimes. Pubs in general are such soulless, anodyne places nowadays.

89 percent of milk sales were done via doorstep delivery in the 1980s. By 2014-15 it had dropped to 3 percent.
