England have RISEN!! to 4th in the FIFA World Rankings. We're not even close to being the 4th best side in Europe. We are ahead of Italy FFS.

Absolutely nonsense. It would be hilarious if it wasn't for the fact that FIFA run world football.

It actually makes some sense when you look at it in more depth.

England have only lost one competitive match since 2010 and that was on penalties. England also have a pretty decent record in friendlies with a recent win over Spain.

South American nations, especially Brazil, have suffered due to lack of competitive matches. Countries in Euro 2012 have just played 3 or more competitive matches.

Italy have been very inconsistent of late and actually came into Euro 2012 on the back of three defeats plus they finished bottom of their group in the 2010 World Cup.

The FIFA World rankings are not a snapshot but a cumulative view of performances over recent years.

Our performances during tournaments are poor and quarter finals is the best we have managed since 1996. How that makes us the 4th best team in the world I just don't understand.

True but we seem to be good at qualifying which is where we must pick up the ranking points. I think the system is massively flawed but you can see how England have ended up fourth and to be fair England don't lose all that often.
