Losing three on the trot, especially the last two from winning positions, really isn't a good look, either for Brook or the management
It's been speculated that Adil Rashid had "gone off the boil" but he was a specialist at seeing games out at the death. The decision to drop him looks to have backfired
In other news, Lancs are doing a "Hendo" with Jimmy Anderson. He wanted to play on, but isn't going to be offered a contract [Post edited 25 Oct 17:04]

Growing gates during better than average times were a perennial of being a Dale fan though
Achieving the current levels of footfall is a significant step towards a stated ambition
This one still feels qualitatively different, given the intervening history of the club, whatever the finer details are to be picked at...
It's far from terminal for the season, but it's a real jolt and a mood change and the key is whether IW has the personal resources to turn it around... again |

Another 4000 gate yesterday, 3500+ home fans
As the light and weather starts to turn, yesterday couldn't have come at a worse time. How many of those will be turning out in mid-winter?
Fans with longer memories have referred to previous home thrashings (it happens to most teams every now and again) but the reason i suggested this one as the most morale-sapping of all is looking at our situation in the round, compared to other embarrassments (the 7 conceded against Shrewsbury another) which happened when we were trundling along on gates hovering barely above 2000
We desperately need a result against Port Vale. I'm looking no further than that |

Given the number of minutes Beckwith's had on the pitch now, plus the training and another full week under his belt, surely he should at least be starting games
If it means we get to half time with a more solid base (Tasker at right back) that's got to be better than bringing him on when either the game's gone, or we're chasing it and the opposition have brought their replacements into the mix
Then, see how long he can last in the second half until he's fully up to speed |

Up next: Port Vale, who've scored just 6 league goals so far

Didn't witness Sherring's performance at Swindon, but hope you're right that he's improving
Hope that includes in the air, given today's conditions

Sherring starts (god help us) on the right? Confirmation that Beckwith is still being nursed back to fitness but pretty sure he'll replace Sherring and Tasker can resume his impressive work at both ends of the pitch, swapping to the right [Post edited 24 Oct 14:26]

Whatever system IW chooses to play, Flint has demonstrated he's every bit as good on the ball, and prone to fewer errors, than EEL. Also, a better leader on the pitch even without the captain's armband. Also, a bigger threat at set pieces up front
And that's before we get to his defensive qualities
The only thing against him.is his age

Hopefully, the club have taken out insurance against players with long=term injuries but even so, the purse strings must be stretched and hope there's room for additions in January |

And... this technology is just in its infancy
There's a good deal of pushback against huge data centres; ugly, power and water hungry... for now. Planning proposals turned down in the UK will hugely backfire on us, when we have no skin in the game as the scaling goes through the same process as it did (for instance) with mobile phones
The internet, and more so with AI, is a reflection of us all; the sum total of our intellect and awareness being reflected back at us all, for the first time. Many are struggling to cope with that
The products of humans, i.e. deriving from having a brain, heart and gut, will become more of a premium once AI reaches a certain point. That's what we need to hold on to, and why i remain an optimist |

The term "rarely" is carrying a heavy load there (maybe someone should DNA profile it?) but there's also a major data issue; ownership. If the clubs are paying for the profile, who owns the data? Does the player carry it with them from club to club, like a passport? Profiling is also likely to flag other health issues or vulnerabilities. How might this affect players who suddenly find they're prone to a range of cancers, or other life-changing conditions? What if the club withholds this information from them?
It's an absolute minefield, and whilst some clubs may be dipping their toes into this to promote personalised training etc., in the longer term i wouldn't be at all surprised if it raised problems for the game that already has enough problems to deal with, on and off the field, largely to do with money
Club owners might even wish to set their own parameters on which players are bought/sold depending on profiling. Is that really what you'd like to see, James? [Post edited 22 Oct 14:38]
