Exactly. Considering how both us and Leeds sh*t the bed at crucial moments this season it wouldnt surprise me at all if it ends up a West Brom Norwich final. As highlighted on a previous thread, sh*t housery, ultra tight defence and a whole load of luck are often what decides these super tense encounters. |

All water under the bridge now. What next a debate on the merits of Wesley Hoet.. No!!! My two pennies worth.. We were a a pretty crappy side Ingsless and Ralph started looking lost.. The press was gone. Broja started featuring about a third of the way through the season and he was frankly sensational.. Wow what a player he was, 12 games and a load of points on the board and he played a massive part in this upturn with a run of goals. Top 10 finish was being spoken about. Bang.. Complete collapse.. Villa I think, the rest of the season was an endless succession of defeats and Broja very much lost his Mojo. Season saved by a Forster masterclass in a dogged(lucky) win at home to Arsenal. I'll always have fond memories of Armando. We live to see if he can find that level again. |

Top Prem Clubs will be in for him for sure. Who can forget that pass against Leeds. |

An experienced keeper, 3 decent CBs, 2 more attack minded fullback push up as wing backs, 3 best midfielders available and our 2 best strikers... Oh look.. We win the game!! |
| Forum Reply | Rotherhamās keeper Johansson at 16:11 3 May 2024
Yep, love to sign him up. The save from the Smallbone shot at SMS was one of the best I've seen. Ironically he didn't cover himself in glory with Armstrong A goal at the New York Stadium. Classic Arma.. He scuffed the easy chance but Johansson probably anticipated a hard shot into the corner ended up diving over the top of the shot! |

Saint Mark, he deserves scrutiny and criticism on a variety of decisions he's made and some of his decisions have potentially cost us points. My main issue is that this would happen with pretty much any other manager we'd have appointed. By all accounts there has been much unrest at Leeds and Leicester as their fans too have been very critical of their respective managers. As far a I can see these two particular clubs have recruited more wisely and kept a core of good Premiership players compared to us... Yet still their fans complain! I would imagine only Ipswich are in the majority a happy bunch considering where they were a few years back. If there is a clear fault at our club it lies with poor recruitment of players and whoever is in charge of that needs to face the music. Of course if we could find a manager better than Martin and I appreciate they'll be many on here that feels there's plenty out there! I prefer to give a manager some time. I stuck by Ralph until it became obvious even to me that he was a busted flush.. I just feel Martin deserves another go next season.. At least till Xmas. |

I'm a self confessed happy clapper. I'll moan with the best of you after a crappy defeat but in general I'm a glass half full type. 60 minutes into the Cardiff game we're one nil up, We've just won three on the trot and it's looking like we're about to face Leicester on 87 points after 43 games.. That's an average of over two points a game and in my view a decent amount that it's hard to complain about. 37 mins later.. Disaster and Auto promotion doomed. Was this Martin's fault? No.. If Brooks scores the open goal in the first half and or Armstrong and Adams take one of their numerous chances we win comfortably and it's game on. This was the opportunity for knives to come out and this was made much worse with the rubbish performances in our last two games.. The point is these two games were now basically irrelevant. Player motivation gone.. No point getting injuries or suspension for the play off games. I read the comments.. Martin is a clown, tippy tappy football and loads of other insults thrown his way. He even had the cheek to play and praise Stephens which is sacrilege to the great and good on this site.. Even though we picked up as many if not more points when he featured. I want him to be here next season regardless of the playoff outcome. He IMO deserves till at least Xmas next season. At his previous clubs he's improved them on the second season so maybe we'll get that here too. . I do find it strange that the majority on here are middle aged or older yet seem the most angry and knee jerk to keep replacing managers when we hit bad form. I thought we were a more calmer and considered generation that understood that it maybe wise to give a manager a bit more time than just one season after finishing 4th. |

Brighton have sold their best players over the last few, seasons. Bournemouth have recruited wisely. Kluivert, Senesi, Solanke. Tactics and styles matter but for me it's about recruiting better players. |

I had the pleasure of staring at Matt ass at half time. He came across to where I sit in the Itchen Centre and was talking to some Asian guy in the row in front of me. My nephew taxted me last night and said the Saints players on the beers in Winch last last drinking in O'neil. |

That doesn't quite tell the full picture imo. We've squandered way too many important goal scoring opportunities to kill teams off. It's easy smashing the like of Blackburn and Swansea by 5 at home. Flat track bullies spring to mind. It flatters our goals scored columm and creates a slightly false impression. Don't get me wrong we clearly concede too many but the negative theme for me this season is going one nil up and ending up with just a a point or less against a poor team and it's the wasted chances that kill us. |

For me it comes down to the quality of players..its as simple as that. Good players know how to hold onto a one nil lead. Good players exploit the opposition and kill the game with 2nd or 3rd goals. At this level we are a very good team/squad but just fall short compared to Leicester, Leeds and Ipswich. Leicester and Leeds have better teams/squads as proven by finishing 6 and 9 points above us respectively last season and they kept more of their better players than we did. Over 46 matches that's revealed itself. |
| Forum Thread | Not win another game and still be in the Prem next season at 11:03 26 Apr 2024
As pointed out on TSP I watched last night. We better be practicing penalties. We can go up losing our next two league games. Draw all three play off games and win the semi and final on penalties . |
| Forum Reply | Flynn Downes and Ross Stewart at 07:39 26 Apr 2024
Apparently the 11 games Downes has missed we've only won 2. We go from Promotion candidates to a relegation threatened side depending on whether he's fit. |

Tbf none of our keepers inspire much confidence . Rothwell. Yep, 4 nice goals and his couple against Huddersfield saved our backsides, but honestly I can't help feel I'm watching a pub player when he plays.. Massively not suited to our style, what mentalist thought he'd be a good signing! |

I'm guessing he said that because when you look at the results, we win more when Stephens plays . I agree during our unbeaten run we had a settled defence that played really well. That was never going to last, it never does and we're certainly not that good defensively. Everyone can see Bazunu is not a great keeper. We're 23rd in shots saved, according to Sky last night. Manning is poor . KWP gets caught out . Bednerak makes mistakes. We're also vulnerable in defence because of our style of play. Martins teams concede alot of goals. You just fixate on Stephens Nick. Always have and always will. Lots of other issues have also contributed to our downfall since January. Fraser has gone off the boil after some excellent performances...why? Maybe Brooks and Rothwell upset the Applecart. Neither have added much to the team. Edozie has also gone backwards since they arrived. As I mentioned earlier Downes is a massive miss. The two strikers not finishing clear chances to kill off teams as well. But you focus on Stephens? [Post edited 24 Apr 9:42]

No Flynn.. No win. Look at the stats when he doesn't play, it's embarrassing. Since beating Huddersfield which was our last win in our unbeaten run which Flynn played. He then got injured and we've lost virtually every game he didn't feature in our next fourteen games. With Stephens we actually average more points per game than when he doesn't play. We concede more.. But score more. It's baffling that he receives so much attention.. Mainly negative from our illustrious super fan yet he's been a peripheral figure in the story of our season. Theres a ton of other reasons we've blown this season but for me it points to an over reliance on our West Ham loanee. [Post edited 24 Apr 8:04]

Predictable inept performance... You could sense this coming.. No Downes... Might as well not even bother turning up. I blame Stephens. |
