The Season is Done

So it doesn't include that Norwich took 6 points off of Rangers when they were in 23rd position.

I do agree though that it isn't the very top teams that we tend to do better against. In my mind it's the teams that we are close to in the table, as Leicester were at the time.

I quite like the name - "LOFTUS"
at 10:22 19 Feb 2026

In the same way as I'm appalled at the ground being called "Loftus", I'm in a minority (perhaps of one) at the club being referred to as QPR!

When I started following the club almost everyone called us Queens Park Rangers or Rangers. You were going down The Bush or going down the Rangers, never going down to QPR.

It was the 1967 League Cup Final that introduced this abomination when The Football League adverised it as "The Alphabet Final". I've used the initials in songs/chants etc, but I'd be surprised if you found any post from me using them. Apart from to moan about them being used!

The Season is Done
at 13:24 18 Feb 2026

For my part, I've seen many a season over the decades that a team (not just Rangers) has gone through the motions when midtable & out of all Cup competitions. Especially prior to the introduction of the play offs.

The 1969-70 season is an example of this as nobody (players, club & a lot of fans) gave a toss after the defeat to Chelsea in the FA Cup. That side had experienced players like Marsh, Bridges, Venables, Harris & Ferguson in it. Do I like it? No. Do I understand it? Yes.

Hopefully we've not finished this season yet, but I'm not expecting to see a surge up the league table.

Nourry answers questions
at 10:03 17 Feb 2026

I 'm not someone who "slags him off regardless", so perhaps I shouldn't answer your question, but I weill.

Where would we be without the imjuries in the league? Top half , three or so points below the play off positions. Even if everyone was available, we don't have enough good players at the club to be higher.

You have constantly posted that we have nowhere near the creation needed in midfield to improve us to that extent. I agree with you! Who do we have at the club that would change this? Chair is the only possibility from those that we have used. Morgan has regressed from last season (maybe due to his lack of minutes, maybe second seasonitis etc), but to counter that, Madsen has improved our creativity a lot from last season.

Personally, I think attitude has a lot to do with our performances & the gulf between our best & worst. Whether, that is mainly down to players, football management or club executives I have no idea.

Next season’s squad
at 10:21 16 Feb 2026

What is required for next season depends on what is the aim of where to finish.

I would say that we have only five players (Dunne, Madsen, Chair, Burrell & Kone) that MIGHT be good enough for a top six position, with the rest being middle Championship players at best.

Where I think we need to change is signing different types of players for the same poition, rather than our four "wingers" who are very similar.

I'm sure that the injuries contributed to the delay of the subs, but they shouldn't have! Make the three changes you were going to make & take the injured player of later if need be. Kone & Madsen were not going to be the ones replaced!

We also delayed the subs a third time so that we could take a "long " throw with the current players on the pitch. I'm sorry, but the delay & not making the changes at half time, was poor management.

I couldn't tell from the Upper Loft, but I'm told that the Hayden caution yesterday was bordering on being a sending off. What are the views of those of you that were closer to the "challenge"?

As far as the match went yesterday, I assume we were surprised that Blackburn played the ball on the ground rather than to our defensive strengths. The game also highlighted (again) that we don't have a wide player above mid Championship standard. I'm not including Chair in this as he is a very different type of player to the others.

The biggest problem to me though, is that we gave the same "performance" as we have against all the teams near the bottom of the league. Is this because we're not good enough to impose ourselves on them? Or because we think we think we can beat them with minimal effort?

I do expect that we will perform better in the next few games than yesterday as they are against better teams!

He also gave it away at the start of their move for the first goal. Admittedly, Norrington-Davies, Cook & Dunne were equally woeful for the goal.

I still can't believe he was on the pitch for the whole game. Personally, I thought he should have been taken off at half time along with Bennie & Cook.

Just a pity that as a left back he can't defend!

Definitely the best attacking full back in the division though.

Thanks Clice, Alan & James.

A very enjoyable Podcast, especially the last twenty minutes when discussing the ambition needed to win football matches.

I also liked the discusssion on our goalkeepers & was reminded that this is a position where we've had a lot of mediocrity in the past sixty years! Watching an over the hill Ron Springett, Mike Kelly & Alan Spratley in the late sixties should have been enough of a warning to me of what I should expect!

I would suggest that Alex Smithies (who I liked a lot), being in our top five (possibly) in my lifetime tells us all we need to know about the position.

Gerrem Onside! - Super League/NRL 2026 thread

I was amazed when I looked at the score from York last night.

Three questions for those of you with far better knowledge than me:-

1) Is the Bradford pitch at Odsall(?) still undersize, but allowed by the Super League?

2) My annual question regarding Wakefield Trinity? Is another top six finish a possibility/probability?

3) Do the clubs take the Challenge Cup seriously? I think they do, but I do think that they rest players at times that they wouldn't rest for a Super League fixture.

Who can save Blackburn from long term League One drift? – Oppo Profile

Thanks Clive & Ian.

I found this a very sad read. Ian Herbert is by far my favourite contributor from other teams, but this lacked his usual humour. Apart from possibly appointing Mandleson!

I have no idea what Ian looks like, but I'm sitting here picturing the look of despondency on his face!

Bring your Kleenex Clive

I was at the Evening with Ale Faurlin a few years back, which was the first time that I met Clive & Simmo.

It was a great evening with Ale being superb company & we followed it up by winning at home to Watford on the Saturday. It's best if we forget about the match after that, although Clive never will!

My two abiding memories of Ale were only a week apart. His celebrations at Watford after promotion was assured & the following week against Leeds where he looked absolutely drained. Not surprisingly, as he must have been carrying the pressure of the investigation on his shoulders.

No, he was not our best ever player, but he is alongside Gerry Francis & Gary Waddock as my favourite!

EFL clubs to vote on expanding Championship playoffs to six clubs
at 10:11 11 Feb 2026

The problem with the Isthmian League (Souuthern & Northern Premier also) is that only two teams are promoted. The champions & play off winners. I'd have a lot more sympathy for the National League's three up campaign if they extended the same to the leagues below them.

I assume that any expansion in the Championship would be applied to League One & League Two. I still can't understand why League Two still promotes four teams.

It is a no from me, but I'm certain that it will be implemented.

Travel to White City from the east (and vice versa) should be ok after 4.00am according to TFL. Getting into the station at White City after the game should be easier than normal!

No bus replacement for me this week, which is a nice change!

Isn't that the same company that are the agents of four of our players, three Australian's & Smith?

At least, this is what was claimed on the Christian Pullella thread.

Is it just me that finds it strange that Rangers post this on x, but don't report it on the club website?

Best wishes to Karamoke for his recovery.
