You may be right about that - a thought from someone a little older than NW.

Transfer rumours 2024
at 20:04 7 May 2024

Not QPR, but a rumour close to where I live:

Rumour: ‘Michael Cooper’s departure from Plymouth Argyle will shortly be announced, for a fee in the region of £8 million’

£8 million? What did we get for Seny? Is Cooper that good?

Lots of memories there.
Anyone remember the white-painted message somewhere on the Ellerslie Road side of the ground?
It was either 'Rodney must stay' or 'Rodney must not go'.

Pleased that he is doing well and enjoying himself.
But, as for QPR, the challenge is to find a new 'Adel' rather than call the old one.

Are we capable of going up next season.
at 11:26 1 May 2024

Depends on retention and recruitment, but we should plan to get in the top six. Planning for mid-table is a dangerous strategy. It would not suit talented, ambitious players, nor is it 'safe'. A few unfortunate results and it becomes a relegation fight.

Not quite the same thing as previous posts, but...
about four years ago, calling at a petrol station just outside Morlaix in Brittany, the French chap at the desk asks 'You like football?' 'Yes'.
'Which team?'
'Queens Park Rangers'
'Ah. Stan Bowles' he said.

Interesting point Stainrod. Is it, at least partly, that the Scandinavians (and other 'minorities') know that they have to learn English to get on in the world and in this country, for years, we have been teaching our children that good use of English does not actually matter very much?

I could not believe the time and space that we won in midfield. Not sure if it was Marti's tactics or a failing on the part of Leeds United, but if it was a result of planning, then we ought to download it into the QPR memory bank for next season.

Who else was worried when it was 2-0?
And even at 3-0 with about 15 minutes to go?

End game – Preview
at 09:39 26 Apr 2024

Great summing up, Clive.
Cannot help but think back to that win over Leeds in April 1976. A win was essential for Rangers to maintain the title challenge. I was standing at the Loftus Road end, with a friend who is a Sheffield Wednesday fan who, of course, disliked Leeds. I remember the lovely goal that Stan Bowles scored at the Loftus Road end. So I saw it? Well, not exactly. I saw him coming towards us and the noise left no one in any doubt about what had happened but, no, I didn't see the ball cross the line - too many heads and shoulders in the way. But, the atmosphere was wonderful - I hope that it is tonight. Another 2-0 is too much to hope for, but 1-0 would do very nicely.

I have enjoyed reading the praise on this board for the players who finally turned the season round. They deserve it.
What they did not deserve is the abuse, for weeks on end, that many of them received earlier in the season - in fact, not that long ago. If you do not believe this, or, have forgotten, go back to some of the threads on here. The players must read this stuff and when they do, only the brightest and strongest will brush it off. Does it matter? Probably - it gives the manager even more to do between matches.
It is, no doubt, too much to ask but, in future, perhaps we could be more measured in our comments when things are not going well?

Would you envisage Horace Batchelor being investigated later for being involved in betting, whilst a player, Ted? (I presume that is the 'Horace Batchelor, Department Two, Keynsham, Bristol.')

In the modern game, aren't they best known for time-wasting?
That may not be helpful.

There is only one... thing to be focused on
at 12:21 14 Apr 2024

Lyndon Dykes does not score goals; Sinclair Armstrong falls over too often and complains to the ref; Paul Smyth misses sitters; Asmir Begovic is apt to flap; Chris Willock blows hot and cold; Ilias Chair keeps the ball too long and Taylor Richards... who is he?

But, there is only one thing to be focused on this week and that is how to beat Preston North End on Saturday evening. Come on you Rs!!!!!

'Our destiny is in our own hands' we hear from time to time.
At the moment (3-0 down at Hull) it seems to be in the hands of Coventry City, Bristol City and Cardiff City.

I should also have mentioned Kevin Phillips, Burnley. One season he was the PL top scorer and his career figures were 282 goals in 660 appearances.
Kevin Phillips is 5'7".
