Do you think he actually wants to be Prime Minister? I don’t. Not for one second. |

I don’t understand what they’re trying to achieve. We’re a pretty broad church on here yet their actions are universally thought both pathetic and infuriating. |

I don’t think they’re bigoted or racist, just wrong. Farage has put all of ills of this country onto immigrants and that’s just so simplistic. Your example of the benefit scrounger we all know is important but raises two points for me. 1. That we all know one leads to many people dramatically overestimating the bill for benefit fraud 2. How many of these people we all know are immigrants? |
| Forum Reply | 🔴🔵🟡🟢⚫️ Who are you voting for ? at 18:04 19 Jun 2024
I saw quite a nice analogy today for those thinking of not voting. ‘A political party is a public bus not a taxi. It won’t take you exactly where you want go but it may be a stop that’s closer to your desired destination.’ |

You’re right IMO. But in any civilised society there needs to be a socialist safety net. When times are tough the size of that net is what causes angst. This sees the rise of the populist right who build enemies to blame. They presents benefit figures as supporting scroungers and in some (too many) it is the case, but the benefits bill is far larger for those in work than not. A vast portion of the benefits bill going out is the state pension but its rarely mentioned. This gets people riled up allows the likes of Farage to say things like this and be believed:
Straight out of the Trump playbook. I can understand a vote for Reform as people would like to put some disrupters in the the HoC, but Reform to be in charge? Don’t be daft. |
| Forum Reply | Nigel Farage at 19:20 17 Jun 2024
TBF that was said as just one example. The biggest sector for migrant workers is health and care. |
| Forum Reply | Nigel Farage at 18:54 17 Jun 2024
I appreciate that blanketing Reform voters as racist is very naive and not very clever. However… if you read today’s manifesto and can’t see the figures are ludicrous then I really don’t know what to say. |

The first time I saw it my first thought was “Thank goodness they stopped it”. I’ve seen nothing since to change my mind. |

As per usual, no actual experience but a search on the internet has thrown up an example 7000 miles away. If you keep searching for stuff like this and clicking on similar links, the search algorithms will direct you to similar posts. That could be why you think it’s such a widespread issue. |

I doubt that’ll affect her. It’s far more likely that the LBGT champion in her school will teach her about the 72 genders which she’ll reject and identify as an otter. Or something. |
| Forum Reply | Multinationals supporting Pride events at 21:32 16 Jun 2024
There’s no need for straight pride events I wouldn’t have thought. I can’ think of anything they’ve been discriminated against. It’s never been illegal, subject to social disapproval, abused due to their sexuality, had different laws in regards to legal standing, been prevented from adopting, been prevented from certain jobs, still prevented to travelling to some countries and these are just off the top of my head. If pride celebrates progress and leads to further tolerance then crack on. There seems to be a lot of offence taken on behalf of other people. Anyone have an example of someone negatively effected by a pride march? |
| Forum Reply | Multinationals supporting Pride events at 11:10 16 Jun 2024
I keep banging this drum Rayns but some seem not to get it. A bit like the suggestion of what happened at Swansea Pride when in didn’t. We’ve in the recent past we had a thread on Primary school LBGT champions. Nobody could find one. We had another thread on how 72 genders are taught in schools. Nobody could find an example even though schools publish their curriculum. Another about ‘gay’ books in primary schools yet nobody could share an inappropriate one being used. Of course if you search hard enough and in the right places you’ll find extremes but it’s not the norm. It must be exhausting for some to be so furious about stuff that’s not happening. |

Is that the right page in the link, Cat? I can’t see anything on there that shows that their vote has fallen for under 50s. |
| Forum Reply | European Elections at 18:07 15 Jun 2024
Your first paragraph is demonstrably correct. People aren’t turning conservative as they get older which has previously been the case. In this election, I’m willing to bet the number of under 50s voting Tory will be below 12%. Same pattern with Brexit. The Brexit pattern may change but it’ll take time for things to continue to settle. It’s far more dangerous for the Tories future atm. They haven’t got time to play with. |
