John Eustace - Blackburn to Derby
at 19:13 10 Feb 2025

I know of a former QPR manager from Blackburn and I believe a big Blackburn fan who probably couldn’t resist if given the call. You know it makes sense Mr Venky.

Paul Smyth's long throw...
at 18:48 10 Feb 2025

I love Smyth. I am the president of the Paul Smyth fan club. Don’t have a strong opinion on the long throws (fairly sure Cook throws it further but obviously of more use in the box and even Bennie hurled in a couple somewhere) but just came here to reiterate my devotion to Paul Smyth no matter how many options available that suit the football hipsters more. Smyth will overcome them all.

Me neither but it’s common now- I assume we do the same thing.

For the home club I guess it gives them a clear idea of numbers for stewarding and catering. Also means they know exactly who has booked tickets should anything untoward occur. All a bit of an unnecessary faff for a game somebody could in theory finish work at five and decide they fancy it and get up there but making things easy for football supporters will never catch on.

Sinclair Armstrong

He was a cult hero rather than a good player (on average, some games better than others of course). Don’t hate nor miss him now. It is what it is. Whether or not it works out for him in Bristol there will always be a club willing to take a punt on someone like him.

We plebs know little about what happens inside the club and sport but I got the impression he and his ‘team’ fancied their chances of getting something a lot better for him than what we were offering, didn’t and ended up getting what was available in probably a reasonable sign-on fee and a few grand more a week. Good luck to him because I’m not confident there’ll be a bigger contract waiting for him next time.

Still think he’s a wide player especially with most teams playing 4-3-3 or some variant of.

He’s someone there’ll always be a manager who fancies themselves to get the best out of and I suspect none will for very long. If he plays enough you will inevitably get moments like the goal against Bournemouth or even a purple patch here and there. A poor man’s Traore essentially.

Cheap trains / Sunderland
at 12:59 9 Feb 2025

It’s 12 weeks exactly until the final weekend of the season so was hoping to nab a ‘bargain’ on our envy of the world train service but they don’t appear to have been released yet for the Sunday. Is 12 weeks before still the time advance tickets go on sale?

Planning to do Friday-Sunday in Newcastle if anyone has any recommendations for accommodation for about ten of us. Not finding any reasonable options as yet vaguely close to the city.

If you’re making excuses or justifying all of the comments he’s made and endorsed/amplified then you might not be a good person. Aimed at any other group nobody would admit to thinking that way. It’s a horrible reflection on the club whether you think it should be or not.

The CBS (ex-Ricoh) Arena, getting to and from
at 19:49 8 Feb 2025

Always a faff. Last year I walked directly forward from the exit towards and past some retail park and over a bridge for about 10 mins. Ordered a cab from there and it was quick back to the city.

But yeah dire ground. The casino is good.

Out of contract (again)
at 08:59 6 Feb 2025

I’ve absolutely no idea about the financial fair play (whatever the call it now) situation but that’ll be the determining factor I imagine. Cook is hardly ancient but if it’s a choice of giving Cook the same money for another year or taking our chances on investing that elsewhere I’m probably choosing the latter.

Same for Colback who is a bit older and not first choice.

I know Paal is popular but I’ve never been a fan tbh. Maybe I have a blind spot there but I just don’t rate the bloke and think we can do better. Perhaps Vale is lined up for that spot. Larkeche still alive?

Has anyone mentioned the LFW obligatory pay as you play contract yet?

Didn’t see any tourists of any description myself. Always surprises me more for Millwall/Luton etc. how you see people you’ve not seen for years.

Maybe the kid’s friends and family but how many Koreans are really that interested in a teenage player with no international caps who will most likely be on the bench? I can’t see hordes of tourists suddenly showing up en masse taking over Ellerslie Road.

It is quite bizarre that a fan base so awash with electronic tags and domestic violence convictions froth at Chair so much but nothing new. Give me Millwall over Derby/Leicester/Cov/Doncaster any day.

That was lenient on the home team in the extreme though. Not to book the full-back towards the end for taking out Saito was just rank, weak officiating along with various other decisions.

Ref today
at 19:21 1 Feb 2025

First half particularly seemed determined to give us nothing and when he had no choice a booking was out of the question. The one where Smyth was stopped from taking a throw was a nice, cosy chat to please not do it again. Goalkeeper take as long as you like mate.

Would like to see the elbow (or not) again to say either way. Tanganga and Cooper should really be sending the referee some sort of gift basket after that.

But- bring Frey on earlier and give a bit back. Maybe play Colback somewhere like that where you know they’ll be in your face. All a bit nice and meek as it was last week when we’ve got Cook, Fox and Field out there who should be giving as good as they get.

Portsmouth tickets

I’m all for having more bandings to ensure those with most points get them but I wish they’d have a longer window between the points levels. Easy enough for me to move a meeting around but plenty won’t have that sort of luxury.

It’s not but it’s silly if the standers are at the front and the sitters are at the back. Going where you want for away games has worked since forever and if you really want your specific seat it only means getting in at 2:45.
