With our record for signing injury-prone players, I'm surprised we didn't get this one:

Stoke Sign Rotherham Keeper
at 14:28 20 May 2024

Goalkeepers are usually at their best in their 30s but I'm not sure buying a player that age suits our recruitment policy, which is why we ended up with an expensive, unproven youngster like Bazunu.

Our best years came when McMenemy bought Shilton in his 30s and, of course Pompey had their best spell in the modern era when they got David James in his 30s, and he was absolutely brilliant for them.

One I wanted us to buy was the Finnish goalkeeper, Hradecky, who this year, at the age of 34, has reached his absolute peak for Bayer Leverkusen.

It's simple. One is the team we support; the other isn't.

Oh well. How could we possibly compete with Stoke?

Would they take McCarthy pushing Bazunu in his wheelchair in part exchange?

I predict that if a few Leeds fans manage to end up in the middle of 35,000 Saints' fans, they are not going to have either a very good time or a very long one at Wembley. I pity them. But, as you say, it's just a few sad Leeds and Pompey fans trying to stir things online. For those who are desperate, as only 71,000 tickets are being sold by the clubs, there will still be about 20,000 neutral tickets available, many of which will go on sale, either online or outside the ground, and I wouldn't be surprised if a few thousand of them still remain unused, leaving the final attendance short of capacity.

Big thanks to the youngsters of the 1885 for organising it. It's a foretaste of what's to come from them next season.

With the changes made by the Club to the setup at St Mary's aided by the backing of a dedicated group of young fans, I predict that next season will see the best home support ever at St Mary's and the Northam becoming one of the best home ends in the league.

Fair play to the Saints Ultras. The scenes are like a Latin American football stadium.

In many ways, anyone but Mara is a no brainer; a bit like anyone but Bazunu. The problem is they feel they have to persist with these youngsters to justify all the money that was spent on them.

Crowd of less than 25,000 looming for play-off semi home leg

The whingeing and moaning on here were bad enough when they anounced they were going to move the away fans into a corner and create a proper home end. Imagine how bad it's going to be when they announce the stadium expansion plans

We went there with Sekou Mara up front so a scoreless draw was the best we could do.

WBA and Norwich
at 10:53 12 May 2024

Getting promoted from the Championship is what West Brom and Norwich do. WBA have been promoted to the top flight 10 times already and Norwich 9 times. In fact, there can be few teams that have done it more than they have.

Big weekend for Southampton boxers

What a brilliant performance from Ryan Garner. Contender for fight of the year as OWTS rings round York Hall from all the Saints fans there.

So all 3 of the Southampton boxers fighting tonight remain undefeated.

A routine points win takes Barney-Smith to 10-0 and up to #8 in the UK Super Featherweight rankings.

The Ryan Garner fight should be on around 10pm.

Three teams that got promoted are straight back down

Luton fans will be pleased with their team's efforts this season. For a small club with a limited budget, which was a non-league team 10 years ago, they did well. I think Rob Edwards is a good manager.

Nobody said it's easy but Bournemouth have managed to establish themsleves in the top flight. It was a very weak Championship last season, as shown by the fact that the 3 promoted teams came straight back down and the promoted teams this season were from League One and the PL.

The teams that go up this season won't all come straight back down again.

Saints' fan Lewis Edmondson has already beaten Pompey fan Joel McIntyre in Cardiff tonight, to go 9-0. That should take him close to the top 10 light heavyweights in the UK.

The Barney-Smith fight is coming up at around 8pm.

Everton Loaned More Money

It's crazy that Everton are still negotiating with 777. If they can't afford to pay Standard Liege players' wages, how on earth do they think they could afford to pay Premier League players?
