Thread of the Week - Bye Bye Wee Billy Wednesday, 28th Nov 2007 16:43 This week has been a hectic one, there have been so many messages set off by the wee man himself; Mr Billy Davies. His suicide note, delivered in the form of a post-match rant about the need for better players and the lack of stimulating conversation with his employer, has resulted in numerous threads not only on our message board but others as well. Posters have ranged from the thoughtful and insightful to the frankly (expletive deleted) illiterate. There are two main strands to the comments: the reason why he went, and his replacement. The first ranges from those who believe he engineered this for a fat pay-off for himself and his staff so he could leave with his head held high, to those who think this is a disaster in the making by Adam Pearson anxious to prove he has the cojones to move someone on for being so disloyal in public. Of course, no-one will really know, but some of those who believe he engineered it, are looking in the direction of Scotland where McLeish has resigned to see if he will surface there. Those who believe he should not have gone seem to fall into two camps: there are those who believe we, Derby, have yet again shot ourselves in the foot while others say that they didn't like him but believe that he should have stayed at least to see out the season. The second strand debating about who was likely to be his replacement seemed to focus fairly narrowly on one of three potential successors: Ince, Jewell, and McClaren. There was however some surprising additions: Shearer, Boothroyd, Mourinho (with the traditional joke of “I'm not that ****ing special”), Taylor, Gary Johnson of Latvia fame and Dowie. As it turned out, Paul Jewell was unveiled as our new manager earlier today and this is reflected in “Looks like Jewell” by Woody662, while an interesting thread was initiated by Jimmyram with his “Absolutely Delighted” comments which didn't mince words. Whatever is posted, it all makes for great reading and so a very heartfelt thanks to Billy for getting us all writing and – oh by the way - thanks for getting us into the Premiership – and as Lady Mary Wortley Montagu dying in 1762 said: “It has all been very interesting.” And so for me the overall winner for Thread of the Week has to be Lang_Ram with his “Bye Bye Wee Billy” for starting off the whole debate.
