Neither. Time to move on. Stewart, Adam Armstrong plus a new striker. |
| Forum Reply | Is Adam Lallana The True Definition Of JUDAS ? at 18:28 14 Jun 2024
Don't care about the past. Just not sure he is the best option for Saints now. Does this mean that we have Lallanna as our number 10 Stu Armstrong replacement? |
| Forum Reply | VAR at 13:19 9 Jun 2024
Scrap VAR and get back to the fundamental reason for the game's rules. Namely to stop a team gaining "unfair advantage". Being two centimetres offside doesn't gain the attacker an unfair advantage. A ball hitting a defenders hand doesnt automatically mean they have gained an advantage through the handball. VAR came about to protect referees from the endless retrospective technology used by the TV companies that now control elite football. When I watch non league games live, we accept it's a game played, watched and refereed by human beings in real time. Mistakes and differing opinions are part and parcel of the excitement. |
| Forum Reply | What’s the point of Smallbone? at 14:43 21 Apr 2024
Smallbone is fine as a championship 8 - good games and bad games as per. But he can't replace Downes as a 6. Not sure why RM doesn't go with Charles - round pegs. That aside we lost because of poor finishing which is why the championship is so competitive. Tippy, tappy created loads of really good chances that weren't taken. Then the nerves set in again and Cardiff got lucky. Adams and Armstrong are hardworking, good, team-players but are championship "strikers" needing loads of chances to s ore. In truth nobody is really clinical in the championship. I can't think of a promoted striker that was really successful in the Prem with the exception of Ivan Toney And if course the great Ricky Lambert. |

Absolute Saints great. Difficult time with illness in later years. Amazing achievement as a top class trainer. Played football for England and trained a classic winner! Not bad for a Wiltshire lad. |
| Forum Reply | Worrying, these players on contract until 2027 at 21:13 13 Mar 2024
I want Saints to win every game but not sure if I want promotion. For fans, not owners or players, 35 enjoyable winning or drawing games is surely much better than 13 wins or draws in the Prem. If we don't go up I'll enjoy watching Bazunu, Bree, Manning, Charles, Smallbone, Sibling, Sam Amo, Edozie, Stewart and Arma next year. |
| Forum Reply | Joe Rothwell at 18:06 14 Jan 2024
Presumably he was at Blackburn with Adam Armstrong |
| Forum Reply | Joe Rothwell at 16:31 14 Jan 2024
Don't know much about him as a player but positionally it seems a good signing. We are a player light in the centre of the park and over reliant on Downes, Smallbone and Charles. Another experienced central midfielder provides some security for the second half of the season. |
| Forum Reply | Saints V Walsall at 08:14 3 Jan 2024
Lumley, Bree, Harwood-Bellis, Stephens, Meghoma, Charles, Smallbone, Frazer, Amo, Mara, Dibling. |
| Forum Reply | The Walker-Peters experiment at 15:53 27 Dec 2023
I don't think it's been very successful playing KWP and Manning from the start as inserted full backs. Better with Bree plus one of the above. With no Bree it gave a chance for Stephens to take that role and let KWP play further forward with greater creativity in midfield. Ultimately it was Smallbone that dropped out. |
| Forum Reply | Stewart and Sulemana both have hamstring injuries and out until New Year at 15:59 1 Dec 2023
I think the plan would have been to offload Che in January if Stewart was playing and scoring. As it is I guess we'll keep him, he is surely due a few goals at some point. Shame about Kamaldeen but I presume Edozie will step in with Sam Amo on the bench. Could be worse. Really think a priority should be a combative midfielder for January as Downes, Smallbone and Charles only need a couple of injuries and suspensions and we're struggling. |
| Forum Reply | Bristol City Game Matchday Thread at 19:06 29 Nov 2023
Looks like 4-2-3-1 on the face of it with Charles and Downes holding. Alcaraz, Stu and Kamaldeen in behind Adam A. I guess that's why Manning is in for Bree. I'd expect Bree to be back against Cardiff and Stewart in the squad. RM said the entire squad would play a some part over the two games |

Hopeless Harry Redknapp never worked out that Delap had long throw and Crouchie could head the ball! And people took the piss out of Pulis..... |
| Forum Reply | Pretty astonishing at 17:02 31 Aug 2023
Should be interesting at least. In theory McCarthy, KWP, ABK, Djnepo, Onuachu, Che and Sulemana are all leaving with Ben Johnson, Nathan Wood/ Harwood-Bellis, Paintsil and Stewart arriving. Wilcox is going to have his work cut out to make that all happen. Personally I'd be happy if KWP, Che and Sulemana all stayed with just one new centre half was brought in. |

He was bought for Jones long ball game which stopped as soon as Jones got sacked. Not really RM type of player so can't imagine he'll still be here on Saturday. |
| Forum Reply | Perraud at 09:28 29 Aug 2023
Perraud is a very traditional left back. I think RM will accept Manning's defensive slips for the other stuff he brings to the build up etc. I'm hoping he will improve over time as he settles in. It is probably the case as with many of the players that he doesn't fancy the championship. We bought him a s a fairly established PL side and he wants out. I can understand why he might prefer Nice to Southampton as a place to live to be fair. |
| Forum Reply | Tella off 24 million at 09:31 26 Aug 2023
Not surprised but really disappointed. Holgate and Fraser are good additions but if we'd been able to keep Tella, Adams, KWP, Alcaraz and Sulemana and brought in Wood we'd have a squad of around 25 including youngsters easily capable of automatic promotion. We could still have sold/ loaned ABK, Lyanco, Perraud, Djnepo, Bree, Aribo and Mara to get the wage bill down without losing those that are making a contribution. |
| Forum Reply | Loan deals precede departures at 16:59 25 Aug 2023
If Che is going we will need it to happen soon if we are going to get a replacement. Given Piroe has gone to Leeds nobody is springing to mind. Of the 10 top scorers in the championship last year only the Millwall lad is still with his original championship club the others have gone abroad,t ransferred or been promoted. Of course we have number 4 in Nathan Tella...... |
| Forum Reply | Everton Defender To Have Southampton Medical Today at 13:13 25 Aug 2023
Like all these things, if true it depends in who is going. If the centre backs are Bednarek, Stephens, Holgate and Wood after September that seems good with ABK and Lyanco gone. If it's Holgate and Lyanco and no Wood that is less good. Similarly if the four wide players are Tella, Frazer, Edozie and Sam Amo that's not bad if Frazer replaces Tella that's not good. Can't see Sulimana hanging around and Stu Armstrong has been moved inside under RM as a midfield alternative. Trying to be glass half full. |
| Forum Reply | There are none so blind as they who will not see at 14:48 22 Aug 2023
I'm just relieved there is no VAR. There will always be mistakes, lack of consistency, awful decisions etc but at least without VAR they happen straightaway rather than waiting for ten minutes and then still get a crap decision. |
