Martin's best decision of the season?
at 12:22 18 May 2024

Matching Fraser up with Fellowes was inspired. They had a right old tussle at both ends of the pitch, but Fraser did the most important job of shutting him down almost completely when they attacked. Admit I was worried when Manning replaced him, but by that time I suspect Fellows was as knackered as our man. Hope RF can recover enough to repeat the performance against Gnonto or whoever Leeds choose to play on the right wing.

The cross was along the ground, wasn't it?

100% agree about Perraud. Unfortunately he's been messed about so much by all 3 managers this season that he'll want back to France at the earliest opportunity - regardless of the many fans who appreciate his effort.

Spot on. No link from back to front, hence all the long balls going nowhere.

Damage limitation
at 19:23 7 Aug 2022

I can't remember Perraud having a really bad game in all the time he's been with us. As a left back, he may not be the world's greatest, but as a defender he is consistently reliable. And contrary to what Nick thinks, I believe he's also quite good in the wing back role. So why play Djenepo there when his skills would be better utilised elsewhere? For me, this is Ralph's worst fault - repeatedly playing people out of position.

Those were the days. I remember (vaguely) being present when the first two of those put on 360 for the first wicket in a game at Bournemouth (?). Think it may have been a one-dayer.

Think you'd be better to care about Saints going down. A distinct possibility now with Everton finding the form to beat Chelsea.

Perraud vs Bertrand
at 21:08 12 Feb 2022

100% agree. He has skill, strength, decent turn of speed, reads the game well, good crosser, excellent shot, and appears totally committed to the club despite seeing KWP preferred at LB earlier in the season. Bertrand was equally good in his prime but those qualities (particularly commitment) deserted him in recent years. Only
possible flaw I've noticed in Perraud is a slightly weaker right foot. He might have scored today (or was it Wednesday?) if it was stronger.

Adams/Stephens
at 00:02 13 May 2021

Just watched replays of the Forster penalty save. Adams straight into the box as the kick was struck and cleared the ball after FF saved. Stephens didn't move till the ball rebounded of Forster. If Adams had been a Palace player, he'd have been nowhere. Says it all about the contrasting awareness and commitment of those two players.

Ralph - We gave up

And most importantly he clearly doesn't have a left foot. Constantly having to turn back on to his right when clearon goal down the left side. Twice that's cost us a goal in the last few matches.

Bednarek wins his red card appeal...
at 18:44 4 Feb 2021

Posted this on another thread but I'll leave it here too.

So was the red card rescinded completely or was it downgraded to yellow? Because if a penalty was the correct decision (i.e. JB committed a foul), he either attempted to play the ball or he didn't. If it was the first of these, he should be getting a yellow, if the second of these he gets a red. if the FA has deleted the card completely, it therefore implies there was no foul and the penalty was a wrong decision - which raises the question....Will Martial's dive be reviewed by the FA, given that no action was taken by the referee at the time and he presumably didn't record it in his match report?

Attacking right backs
at 22:09 19 Jul 2020

As something of an oldie I sometimes struggle to understand how modern managers set up their teams to play. I'm all right with overlapping fullbacks and the concept of wing backs but can someone please explain to me RH's system whereby the right back is free to roam into the centre (or even the left side) of our attack? Cedric did it quite often, the goal at Wigan being a notable example. Now KWP is doing it even more (possibly more youthful energy than Cedric). Not criticising, quite the reverse!

Right back against Liverpool

Just wondering? With Cedric gone, Walker-Peters "not featuring", Valery still ill (?), Ramsey also departed on loan, Danso leaving by mutual consent....who will be our makeshift RB tomorrow?
