"Phil Neville got forty plus caps for England.Another one of life’s mysteries"

Worse than that mate, he got nearly sixty (fifty nine to be exact).

For me, if we moved, my preference would be to still be in the London postcode area either a W or NW postcode so Uxbridge, Hillingdon, Greenford and Ruislip would be out for me.

Brian Clough: We've got a little fat guy who will turn him inside out

Gary Newbon: John Robertson

Brian Clough: Yeah, a very talented, highly skilled, UNBELIEVABLE outside left, he'll turn him inside out!

Looking at the Sir Bobby Robson stand at Portman Road from the outside on Google Street View (one of the newer stands behind the goals, can't find a pic online) the upper half seems to overhang the street below.

Does anyone think the SAR stand could be rebuilt like that to make it bigger?

'Marquee' Rs signings who were (successful) 'statements of intent'

A matter of opinion BR, personally I don't think he was (not for the first couple of seasons anyway) but he was signed from a PL club at the time and like Spencer was dropping down a division.

Up against Francois who has a 31,000 majority, one of the safest in the country. You'd think that even with how badly they're likely to do, the Tories won't lose that seat.

Not for the first couple of seasons he didn't, he was regular first choice. It started going wrong in the first PL season when he made one or two errors culminating in a horror show at home to Palace just before Christmas. Gerry Francis seemed to lose confidence in him after that and he didn't play the rest of that season.

He replaced Roberts early on the next season 93/94and played a good chunk of the season before losing his place again but even if his contract wasn't expiring and he hadn't wanted to return to the Czech Republic I don't think Gerry Francis would have been wanting to offer him a new deal.

Terry Venables
Frank McLintock
John Hollins
David Seaman. Was considered at the time one of the country's hottest prospects with a few teams after him.
I'd also put the re-signing of Clive Allen from Palace in 1981 as fairly marquee.

?

Stan was hardly known then, he was just starting to get noticed but he was playing in the second division at a fairly remote outpost like Carlisle.

I wouldn't have called signing Darren Peacock from fourth division Hereford a marquee signing unless you mean Gavin?

You could probably make the same comparison with the Champions of Europe and Don Revie. Prior to him pitching up as player manager in 1961 they were a mid to lower half second tier team (and had been for many years) who had won absolutely nothing.

What they have been and are today stems from his 13 years as manager.

Starmer played a blinder I think. He was obviously in possession of that letter saying it wasn't Treasury civil servants who'd come up with this two grand a year figure and like the top lawyer he is, he let the defendant Sunak lie again and again to the jury to basically hang himself.

Yes and No. Derry was still at the club in the 2013 close season but didn't play at all and became Notts County manager a few months into the season. Mackie was at Nottingham Forest that 2013/14 play off season (joined the fakes the season after when we were embarrassing ourselves in the Prem and joined us again the following season).

Plus his and Osborne's political choice of austerity which the IMF called unnecessarily harsh and deep and counterproductive in the long run which most of our public services are still feeling the effect of today.

The economy just before the 2010 election was starting to recover and austerity killed that recovery stone dead.

"Plus they could sell themselves as the party of law and order against the man who failed to prosecute Jimmy Savile"

Bringing up that lazy trope again. The DPP doesn't have the final decision on every person that the CPS does or doesn't prosecute, that is left to individual reviewing lawyers.
