I'd forgotten about Mackie

Rednapp v Warnock
at 14:45 19 Sep 2013

With Harry suggesting Kranscar would play in behind Austin, we have the intriguing possibility of mapping Harry's team with the same 4-2-3-1 formation that Colin employed so successfully just 3 years ago. (Harry wouldn't play a clunky 4-4-1-1 would he?)

Assuming we are comparing like formations, we are far enough into the season to start making opinionated judgements!

Let's start with where we are after 7 games

P W D L F A Pts
Warnock 7 6 1 0 19 2 19
Rednapp 7 5 2 0 7 2 17

Player for Player mostly (compare Warnock's with how they were then) - based on Kranscar in place

G
Kenny v Green; Green shades it
4
Orr/Walker v Simpson; Simpson over Orr, Walker over Simpson
Connelly v Onuoha; Ned, I would have to say
Gorkks v Dunne; again, Dunne I would have to say
Hill10 v Hill13/BAE; Hill13 as good as Hill10 - but BAE probably better than Hill10 (Q. If he's also better than Hill13, what happens when Ned returns from injury?)
2
Faurlin10 v Barton; Hard to split them on a Then and Now basis; Faurlin13 sadly inferior to Faurlin10 at this time.
Derry v Henry; Derry - attitude, visibility, commitment, authenticity, leadership
3
Routledge v Hoilett; Still Routledge for me but close. Hoilett could readily change my mind
Tarrabt v Kranscar; Great reputation-and-achievement signing by Harry I'm sure - but it's hard to see him transcending the Championship player of the 2010/2011 season. Warnock built the entire team around Adel - as Stock did around Rodney - and it paid off big time.
Smith/Buszaky v perm 1 from Carroll, Jenas, Faurlin13, Phillips, SWP and several others. This all needs to settle down before we can compare. I just wonder id Franscar might be the new Buszaky rather than the new Tarrabt...
1
Helguson v Austin; call me unfair but the Iceman is on a far planet in a distant galaxy..
I wish he was still here.

Overall. Warnock's team gelled from Day 1, Harry is still Work In Progress so right now we are comparing a team with an XI if you get the distinction.

There's a famous TV series called 7 up which compares a bunch of kids, now pensioners every 7 years of their life. Might do the same here after 14, 21 games etc.

Now have your say..

Club statement on AJ

Let's not give AJ a hard time over this -we move on

Well done Harry on a smartly executed Transfer Window capped off nicely with that Car Window sign off

Plenty to anticipate with relish for the next 10 days on the back of an unbeaten run.

Enjoy it while it lasts

Fixtures out today?
at 09:50 19 Jun 2013

Who devises these fixtures?

One of the few fixtures to look forward to is the prospect of a weekend in Brighton

We're there on a Tuesday night in March...

Plus the Autumn International breaks and our fixture tormentor have contrived to create 2 four week Home Game blanks between 17 Aug - 14 Sept and 5 Oct - 2 Nov

Last game at Barnsley..

Calm down! Sober Reflection In The Fullness Of Time
at 11:26 29 Jan 2013

Not often you can reference both the late Michael Winner and even later Sir Humphrey in the same review but it works here

After Sober Reflection In The Fullness Of Time, Saturday's debacle can be seen to be entirely predictable

Fringe players
Not match sharp
No team acquaintanceship with each other (is there such a word?)
No leadership on the field
No incentive from Harry - even match magazine FA Cup comments were lukewarm
No motivation or desire - they knew they wouldn't be back tonight
Utterly complacent - especially after netting within 2 minutes
Bad luck with first goal. "One of those days" as Smithy remarked several times in the first half as MK repeatedly cleared their panic lines

MK suffered from none of the above

Other posters have forensicly examined individual performance and - Park and Ferdinand aside - found difficulty in condemning individual performances outright

Easy to predict 9 or 10 changes tonight, but, more interestingly, who will fill the bench? Those least tainted by Saturday's debacle...

Bench prediction: Green, Ben Haim, Traore, Mackie, Bothroyd. Plus Young and Ephraim - who were relieved not to have been involved on Saturday.

Calm down! Until maybe 21.45hrs...

MK Got lucky today

You are all missing the point, this forensic analysis is meaningless

complacency and lack of desire sums it up

Well done MK you deserved it

This will affect club morale badly

Forget who should go, here's who I would keep; if we are going down, let's go down with players to whom the club actually means something.

Green, Traore, Fabio, Derry, Hill, Nelsen, Taarabt, Faurlin, Mackie, Mbia, Ephraim, Campbell , Hoilett, Murphy, Johnson, Young , Andrade, Balanta, German, Harryman, Sutherland, Cerny

There'a a decent XI to be selected there, but not much of a bench...

Farm the rest out - sale or rent - to Anzi, PSG, MLS, Shanghai or anywhere else mercenaries can make some easy money

Martyn Busby, Fulham 1972
at 12:45 16 Dec 2012

In amongst yesterday's euphoria I was reflecting on past Fulham matches - and elksewhre on this site there's been reminiscences of 1983 Mayday promotion plus the 2001 crockings inflicted accidentally by Rufus Brevitt on Carlisle and, was it Shittu? that derailed our progress.

There was another memorable match at Craven Cottage early in the 1972 season. Venables was QPR captain in a midfield inc. Gerry Francis and Martyn Busby. R's legend Alec Stock was by then managing Fulham. Psycho monster Paul Went trod on Busby's leg in the Fulham box and ran off; my abiding memory was the Fulham goalie who didn't wait for the ref but ran frantically to the St Johns guys on the touchline. People said you could hear the crack - I didn't, but it turned out to be a horrific injury.

Busby was on the fast track to replace Mullery in England midfield - he was never the same again.

I was Introduced to Paul Went a couple of years ago at a Leyton Orient hospitality do. I had to bite my tongue.

Anyone know what became of Martyn Busby?
