That one in 94 was a classic, Your Fat and Your Birds a slag followed by meltdown, skirt lifted and the skidmarks on your knickers song

I do love a trip to Southampton

I remember that cage - even had bars overhead. I went there and a cop said get in. I refused. He then said it's in there or get out of the ground.
I did that and bought a ticket in the side stand. The roof was so low, the ball disappeared if it was over head height.

What a marvellous preview - one of your very best. I enjoyed that very much and it has got me very much in the mood for tonight, one of the handful of aways I can make.

I also learned that what happens at football must stay at football if you want to be allowed to continue taking your young daughter to games :)

I shall predict nothing, but I am hopeful.

Glory hunter, me

What a fantastic piece.

I was there for the week after that infamous Dennis Bailey 4-1 at Old Trafford.

I had been to that game in the Man Utd end so had been unable to cheer that win. I was looking forward to what surely would be a walk in the park after that victory.

Well you can guess what followed, and as we now say ''QPR innit!''

Southampton was also my first ever away game. Awaydays weren't an option when I was young as it meant my dad leaving the pub (we often didn't get out of the Shepherds Bush boozers for home games we had tickets for - particularly sad thinking back to watching the pub empty out of home shirts and waiting for the QPR score to come round on the Teletext for the next 2 hours whilst looking at the unspoiled ticket with the shiny blue writing), so in my late teens I dragged an Arsenal supporting mate along, naively jumping on the supporters coach which was dry (bag of beers taken there and back), and played Fawlty Towers videos with no sound all the way home from a 0-0. An incredibly bleak experience.

Finding my tribe with LFW has meant that it's become the venue for many iconic days out since... That 3 hour stopper service mentioned in the preview where I got to test my french chat up lines, the Austin spin shot that came amongst fighting in the crowd, the bath of beans / local newspaper photo and infiltration of the saints fans shuttle bus, and many more stories just from this south coast pilgrimage that have made far better memories.

Blimus.

Cheers Clive for the preview!

I was wondering earlier if there had ever been a Hampton derby. Turns out they've played each other a few times.

Brilliant Clive - Brought make so many memories of Southampton away over the decades.

Those wooden seats have a great story from me too which was an altercation with Francis Benali back in the nineties. Can’t say anymore in case the Hampshire police reopen the file………but it’s a cracker belive me.
