This. Rice is a class act but I think he could us some back up in the centre. They seem to favour Trent in the role, which might be the right call but I'm uneasy about players being shoehorned into unfamiliar roles just to get 11 bodies in the pitch.
I didn't. The unrelenting media cock-slobbering over the great and storied Tartan Army prior to the match left me hating them almost as much as those that follow the King's Road Cunce.
Left back has been an issue this season but they've selected Shaw so there must be some sort of hope that he'll be available. Straw-clutching, I know, but they'll have had medical assessments that see him taking part in some way.
To be honest, I'm not sure if there is better option and I hate seeing players in England shirts stuffed into unfamiliar roles simply to cover a poor squad selection (e.g. Emile Heskey playing left wing because Eriksson went for names not specialists).
With Marti pulling the strings, I'd say that the top half of the table is a minimum expectation. Even with last season's squad, it wouldn't be completely out of the question, given a full season in charge. If we're still in with a shout of a play-off spot going into the last 6 games, that'd be outstanding.
Realistically: 12th-10th place and safe in good time.* Optimistically: a late run at the Play-Off spots to keep us all interested.*
* Assuming the summer transfer business is any good. Doesn't have to be perfect, just not shite, for once.
