Another assist too. "Striker Ben Brereton Diaz says he has rediscovered his joy for football during his loan spell at Derby County." He never looked happy here and towards the end, you could see he just wanted to get away. He looks like a different player at Derby, fitter, more motivated and, of course making and scoring more goals. He's only 26, reaching the peak of his career. We should get a good transfer fee for him, which is the main priority of the club, after all. You sense the same will happen with Harwood-Bellis when he manages to escape to another club. He's going to enjoy his football more and get back into the England team. [Post edited 30 Jan 21:06]

A lot of these loan deals are done by people who've got to know each other through years of networking or by people who played or worked together in the past. We don't have the contacts with Leeds or other top clubs that would take us to the top of the queue for their loanees. Even Ankersen's time at Brentford doesn't seem to have got us any loanees from them. |

It sounds like both Middlesbrough and Wrexham are willing to pay £8 mill for Armstrong. With time running out, one of them may go as high as £10 mill. I don't suppose we could get Dael Fry in part exchange? [Post edited 29 Jan 22:53]

If Carlos Kaiser had ever wanted to come to England, we'd have been the club to sign him: a highly lucrative career as a professional 'footballer', spanning more than a decade, without ever playing a game. Then there's the case of George Long. Has anyone ever seen him? OK, he's not being paid anywhere near as much as Aribo and McCarthy - not many footballers are - but, he's earning more than most people do in their lives. [Post edited 28 Jan 13:00]

For many on here, surely this is living the dream, as they said last season all they wanted was to watch Championship football and never get promoted to the Premier League again. Sport Republic have obviously taken note. To be honest, whatever happens, people will moan. Some of the angriest and most bitter posts on here came when we won a few games. [Post edited 28 Jan 12:41]

I guess we'd find out if we ever read his autobiography or if Nick asked him. Ironically he played in a Stoke team alongside Adrian Heath. [Post edited 28 Jan 12:12]

As a Scouser, Paul Randall will probably remember his last minute equaliser v Liverpool and his goal at Old Trafford in the 1980-81 season more. Scoring 2 goals against another Second Division team wouldn't have been such a big deal for him. He was scoring goals for fun every week in the late 70s. [Post edited 28 Jan 12:21]

A bunch of kids from our end - the oldest was about 15 - ran on the pitch and got chased off it. It was embarrassing. Southampton at Nottingham Forest the year before was much better. We always had a massive away following at FA Cup games in those days. [Post edited 28 Jan 11:10]

Far too soon to pass judgement. He's 19. A few sub appearances are what you'd expect in the Premier League, at his age. Who knows what he'll be worth in the future? [Post edited 26 Jan 22:10]

You should have gone to football in the 70s. You'd have heard far worse. In fact, the Dell was one of the worst places for it. The abuse the Pompey players and fans got in the last derby game at the Dell, in 1996, was just as bad. Modern stadiums keep the crowds well away from the players but in old grounds, they can get close to them. [Post edited 26 Jan 10:35]

Yes, we extend our unbeaten run to 5 matches and 16 years. Pompey fans were really expecting a win today. Could you see Adams pushed the ball into the net with the crook of his arm from where you were? VAR would have ruled it out. |

Schmid was impressive in goal for Pompey. He's one of the top rated goalkeepers in the Championship and he really saved them from defeat. But, anyway, that's 5 games and 16 years we've gone undefeated against them. [Post edited 25 Jan 15:29]

It looked like Pompey's goal should have been disallowed for handball. Unfortunately, there was no VAR I guess it will be remembered as The Hand of Cod. Like most fans, I thought we should have started with Fellows and Stewart instead of Matsuki and Armstrong, but, when they came on, they were both awful - just not cut out for the heat of battle. So, it's just as well Eckert chose the starting lineup and not us. I guess he knows the character of his players better than we do. Pity he brought them on at all. He must have thought the heat had been taken out of the game so it was OK to send them out there. Scienza's injury made a huge difference. Edit: I've just seen a replay. It was a clear handball. Adams scored with the crook of his arm. Especially considering their goal was a handball and they injured our best player, a 1-1 draw was better than most on here expected. Until those 2 things happened, we were looking good for a win. Overall, not many on here would have predicted we'd get as many as 4 points from the 2 games this week. [Post edited 25 Jan 14:41]

West Ham aren't coming down, which is good for us next season, but not so good for Fernandes, as it's been reported that Real Madrid were going to snap him up at the end of the season. West Ham won't let him go now. Nuno moving from Forest to West Ham may have sealed Forest's fate. They could very well end up replacing West Ham in the bottom 3. |

Yes, it was a perfectly good goal only disallowed because it was Southampton scoring first at Old Trafford. Shipperley headed in a Le Tissier cross. He was onside but it was disallowed because he won the ball instead of the United defender who was between him and the goal. We were on top for most of the first half and you could only hear the Saints fans. But after that, Cantona took control. The referee was very much United's 12th man in the 90s. Our games at Old Trafford mostly seemed to go like that. [Post edited 23 Jan 22:29]
