Southampton Interested In Bournemouth Defender
at 12:16:35

This is typical during the summer break and some of these " deals " are either generated by agents looking to create interest in their clients, or on a site run by some kid who has a PC in his bedroom and thinks he's I.N.K and wants deals for his favourite players. Fake News !

So far I've noted around 20 ( yes twenty) names listed on various sites and the window doesn't even open till Friday. Personally, I'll wait till I see the interview after the player has signed his contract at Staplewood.

Trabzonspor Demand Southampton Lower Price For Striker
at 10:33:23

The Turkish club might desperately want him, but are pleading poverty - well sorry fellas
but Saints have the same problem in the Prem. as even an ordinary bench player from a
" big name club " could set you back 30 million+. There has to be a better solution.

If we accepted their paltry offer for Onuacho we would lose a lot on the original investment, but perhaps now is the time for Sport Republic to organise " swap / loan " type transfers between their various clubs and not totally lose out on the deal.

Southampton Already Linked With New Goalkeeping Target
at 10:21:54

to ElSanto......TWO Irish goalkeepers ?. I wonder how long that friendship would last?
I think I might have reservations about that as they both want the Irish no.1 jersey.

There are some good European keepers out there who haven't had a mention yet, and someone with International / Euro type Cup experience wouldn't be a bad thing.

Southampton Agree Permanent Deal For Key Loanee
at 12:15:12

This has to be a win-win situations for both clubs. Two years left on his contract at Newcastle and he's not even on conversation terms with the manager. Many of his appearances last season were nothing short of brilliant, both in goal-scoring and assists. He is popular in the dressing room, and that can't be a bad thing.

30 isn't old for a good player, and the likes of Steven Davis and Shane Long could still put on a turn when they were past 34. He won't get a 5 year contract, but could go a way to help stabilizing the team now that we are back in the Prem. IN SHORT - A GREAT DEAL.

Turkish Super Lig Giants Bidding For Joe Aribo
at 12:03:58

Clearly on a good day Joe looks the part, but I'm not convinced that he is a Prem. level player in the long term, and we might do better with a pair of " younger " legs.
IF ...we can recoup a good fee for him then I'd say take the money and run.

Southampton Linked To Reunion With Armando Broja
at 11:58:35

Given our situation at the time we loaned Broja... he DAJFU and scored a few goals before he was crocked around Christmas and never got back to his early season form.
Chelsea are just one of the big money Prem. clubs looking to clear out their bench players who aren't " their sort of Prem. player " and bring in fresh blood.

Should we have him back ?....if all else fails and we can afford to meet the asking price, it might be a necessity to buy him as a partner for Adam A. , but I think there are others in line before we get to his name. Probably not.

Southampton Considering Move For Wembley Play Off Opponent
at 09:49:17

Being a stand-out player with a Championship side (in this case 5 years ago with Swansea) doesn't guarantee even a bench place at a Prem. club. Although not having seen him that much, I was seldom impressed with Rodon, and his subsequent loan-outs to various clubs did little to enthuse fans that he was " the real thing ", and may never make it in reality.

Our transfer committee will have the last say, but my real concern is.. .buying yet another player from Spurs ..and falling for the sort of deal Daniel Levy will dream up to sc*ew us. He is a master negotiator and would do well with a place on Dragon's Den.

Clearly we got a nice deal with KWP, (but that was an exception) because the majority of the deals that Spurs have put over on us in the past are too painful to recall.
If any potential deal over-states Rodon's valuation and they expect a swap with KWP , I fear we may be conned - yet again. I hope I'm wrong but he looks like another Holgate.

Would Southampton Fans Welcome Back Adam Lallana To St Mary's
at 16:12:41

I was waiting for this one to come up. Those fans who derided him when he left will be angry, but at a time when he was peaking and Saints were in the doldrums. Few people were angry at Lambert for leaving , but why when AL left at the same time.(?)

A career at the top level can be short , but for some fans AMBITION is a dirty word but I for one would not blame him for taking the chance, but Liverpool (pre Klopp) were the real losers as Brendan Rodgers rarely played them together when that was their real strength when they played for us. Lambert and Lallana could have played blindfolded and still scored goals and Lallana's assists with Saints were very impressive for a young man.

Would I have him back - YES -like a shot. My generation remembers 36 year old Alan Ball
playing across the field and making a career for the young Steve Williams.
Lawrie McMenemy's quote was always .. "old heads and young legs" , and the thought of playing Lallana alongside Smallbone and Downes (even for 60 minutes a game) would
be an incredible prospect.

Having Lallana (and even Ings) back for a year or two who help bring stability to the squad and bring on the next generations new / younger talents who are on the way up.

Could Adam Lallana Make A Surprise Return To Southampton
at 11:17:55

More of the " old guard " names mentioned. After Theo, then Alex Ox..a nd now.. Lallana.
Obviously not 90 minute players every week (injuries permitting) but having a few old heads in the dressing room can do no harm. They know the club well and wouldn't need a GPS to find the way to Staplewood or SMS.
Whether its one of them, or someone else.. it's essential to have experienced players with some pedigree as we have such a young squad - and especially if we get back to the Prem.
; I agree with West Sussex above,

Southampton Sell Out St Mary's For The West Brom 2nd Leg Play Off Semi Final
at 11:47:22

with all the posts sbout " money stats." being bandied around here , I wonder if there is a likelihood of a new attendance record ?. As memory serves we had in access of 32,500 for the final game of the 2011-12 season before the promotion back to the Prem.
It would men selling all the hospitality box space as well.. ..who knows , and if we come away from the game at The Hawthorns with a positive goal advantage it might encourage a few companies , or family groups to show up for the return leg.

Southampton At Leeds United The Verdict
at 11:10:02

Aside from doing the double over Leeds .(.is that club record ?.) it was very entertaining to see the midfield trio getting their heads down and bulldozing through the Leeds defence instead of merely playing Russball in the centre circle to keep possession.

If this is a new tactic , it's come better late than never. KWP looks better as an attacking force than he does as a full back, and sprinting after that long ball looked like a lost cause, until he kept it in and his pass was inch perfect for Will Smallbone to run onto.
Good performances all round, and for once it was difficult to criticise Alex McCarthy who made a number of vital saves at critical moments.
With this type of application we might still get the third promotion spot.

Southampton At Leicester The Debacle
at 18:32:53

There is little to be said to provide an excuse for (Yes Nick) ..debacle was a good word.
For better or worse our back line picks itself every game even when swapping the full backs
and without your favourite whipping buy (Captain Jack). Sadly recent events meant that the injuries to Downes and Stuey meant that the midfield trio picked themselves, and after Rothwell went off injured Will Smallbone was " the best of the worst " even after coming on as sub. To brag about the fact that Adam. A and Che Adams have 37 goals between them is to totally ignore all the clear cut chances they seem to waste in almost every game. Unless our form picks up incredibly we may be hard put to it to win the play-offs and certainly very few in the current squad look to be anywhere near Prem. standard.

The thing I hated most about losing 0-5 was that Jamie Vardy scored against us -yet again.

Injured Southampton Striker Could Play Some Part In Promotion Push
at 10:43:56

Note to Tim Saint.. of course fans always focus on the misses - especially if it cost us points, but such comments reminded me of a long ago conversation about Derek Reeves who was top scorer in Saints (Div.3 South) promotion side (1959-60) when he scored 46 league and Cup goals, which is still a club record 60 years on.
In a group conversational break before a kick-off , I remarked what a feat it was to score so many...but then a moaning voice in the background muttered.." Yes it was ..but he missed a hundred ". Football is like that. When we win it's great to praise the goalscorers but on lesser occasions, there's always someone who counts those missed chances.

Brighton Alleged To Be Talking To Russell Martin To Replace Roberto De Zerbi
at 08:06:57

Is this more "click bait " I wonder?. If we don't make it through the play-offs many think that we will have a mass kull of staff, players and not least the manager. Nonsense.
Everyone would look at the chance of some sort of advancement and stories like this are commonplace. Although not every game brings the required result we have a small group of " followers " who will even criticise when we win, because they don't like " Russball",
If we have achieved anything this season it's precisely because of this formation.
Possession denies the opponents the use of the ball , and makes them run around needlessly in attempts to regain it. Not sure it would work in every club, Brighton being one example where a move there for RM might be short-lived .

If we were to lose RM, for goodness sake get us a replacement who can talk about football and players in " football English ". At least Koeman could communicate, but I've had my fill of foreign managers who can only speak through an interpreter.

Southampton At Ipswich The Verdict
at 14:02:57

Lots pf people have similar comments (above) about wrong selection, wrong subs etc but we also need to recall how many games / points we have won by scoring late / very late goals. In the last two games, we have dropped 5 points due to goals scored in the last minute(s) of the games.
Should we really complain now that we feel the same as fans at Sheffield (Wed), Plymouth Hull, Preston, Millwall, Birmingham and Sunderland because they also lost points because of our goals that were scored" at the death".
It hurts but what goes around, comes around and over the weekend we got our share of
" bad luck".." football karma " or whatever you call it. We are still in with a shout for the play-offs and if we are good enough.. we can still get promotion.

Sit Back, Wait, Watch And Hope Is All Southampton Can Do This Weekend
at 13:40:40

As A1079 has mentioned above there is nothing we can do to affect their games (except perhaps aside from the power of prayer). With no game this weekend we will now have two "spare games " over Leeds and Ipswich, who we have to paly against as well, but of course we must win them to have a chance of automatic qualification.
Maybe we should look forward to a quiet weekend and a bit of gardening?

It's Millwall. I don't know who is toughest ..the players or their fans?.

Southampton V Huddersfield Town The Verdict
at 10:31:01

I somehow felt that we started a bit low-key, expecting this to be a easy win only for Huddersfield to take advantage from the start. I thought we were "a bit lazy " in midfield and the situation got worse after Downes went off. Will Smallbone fought on alone, while Stu. Armstrong - though is good in an attacking role - does not defend well.

In the event, Rothwell was an inspired substitution and it was certainly a game of two halves, and I was left wonderíng when the last time a Saints side scored 5 goals in the second half ?. I recall we put 8 past Sunderland during the Koeman regime but can't remember the timing of the goals.

Some of our best games this season have been against highly-placed sides, but once again we struggled against a relegation-threatened club and might easily have lost it, but for the second half revival, but the game will stay long in the memory for the late victory.

Southampton At Rotherham The Verdict
at 13:28:59

Not the most exciting match of the season, more of a b*g-standard away win against a struggling side who have shown in the past that whilst they struggle at this level, they are a good bet for a top 6 spot in League One and then perhaps lose in the playoffs.
Once again their goalkeeper kept the score down to a respectable level and there was always the chance that they might score on a breakaway. He might be "worth another look" in the summer - after Rotherham are relegated and McCarthy finally leaves the club.

Our normal good start with an early goal, from Jan B. who looks a commanding figure wíth time on his hands, but overall we lacked the usual aggression for spells in the game, but all things considered it was another 3 points in the bag.
Downes and Smallbone are beginning to look like a good MF pairing, and the short sub. app. from David Brooks didn't go unnoticed.

January Transfer Window Mixed Bag For Southampton
at 12:24:45

If the last 18 months has produced a massive turnover in the playing staff, an eventual promotion will trigger another. Not the time for discussion now, but I can't see quite so many of the present squad being good enough for a long term Prem. career.
However, a somewhat low key window. Holgate may do enough to help the Blades survive but he did seem to be a bit of a square peg in the mix. The loan possibilities we have presently + Brooks may take care of some of our summer requirements and the endless combinations around the Alcarez loan may yet work out in our favour.

Meantime , we await the return of; Aribo, Bree, Edozie and Sulemana in the next few weeks, maybe even Lavia?...and the unlikely thought that Stewart may be fit enough for a little game time in the run-in during April, (despite previous predictions of next season).
Without chicken-counting, we may even see Adams staying - if promotion works out.
