Absolutely dominated second half but definitely two points lost. Mani early in the game and Moss near the end should score from a few yards out. I'd love to hear the ref's reasoning for the penalty incident.

There were enough chances to win that. Never mind, another point.

Agree with that

We lack a cutting edge upfront ..some of the corners are poor ..the last 3 straight into the keepers hands.

Still advantage Dale with one more game in hand to come

Thought Rodney was much improved but no end product, he has to be hitting the target from a couple of those efforts. We're paying for our lack of goalscorers and at the same time we've started to concede goals, a bad combination if ever there was one.

Need to dust ourselves down and move on quickly, we're still in a fantastic position but York will be full of confidence whilst ours will have taken a knock.

Think the referee got the penalty call completely wrong. But our strikers need to find their shooting boots. Another point collected- fair play to Scunthorpe for the way they set up.

Edit- Referee assessor said it should’ve been a retake.

Was going to say the same. Bit embarrassing for Drysdale when his assessor says he got it wrong.

The shooting is woefully bad…. Either wide or blazed over the bar or recycled / passed back when ignoring runners.

We have gone top tonight despite our best efforts to fook it up!!

The reluctance to shoot has now manifested into not shooting from the penalty spot.. absolutely beggars belief.

Small margins in very big games. Thought Mani really let the side down tonight with that penalty. Just needs to run up and hit it. A player of his experience should be doing better in the context of this game.

watched it back a few times. Mani didn't touch the ball, there was barely any encroachment and the keeper still had a foot on the line.

What was happening was ref was waving and flapping him arms during the run-up, signalling for no-one to encroach, but it was right in Mani's eyeline so maybe (understandably?) distracted him?

Pretty sure ref got the rule wrong - because Mani hadn't started his kicking motion (he stopped during the run up) it should've just been retaken again.

In fifty years of watching the Dale, I have never seen a penalty decision like that before, please can anyone explain the referee did not order a retake, did Mani touch it, it left me baffled to say the least.

I thought Rodney was out standing tonight and we dominated the game, but could not take the chances, we need to be more clinical, but sometimes I think we over pass the ball around the opposition penalty box. It was a good game, but two points lost sadly based on our domination of the game.

Finishing was woeful to non-existent again, as were a lot of crosses... again. Unbeaten this year still and back top so will be staying mostly positive.

From the videos I've seen since getting home it sounds like Mani played to the whistle, just not the one in the referee's hand.

Also I thought I was dreaming when I saw that Gateshead won a football match

We are relentless yet not ruthless. Mentally we are excellent at grinding out results, they all believe they’ll win games. It’s that we don’t win games before the final whistle at the moment because we don’t make the most of where we get to in and around the area. It was the same when we were winning all the time too, but now we’ve hit a period where we don’t get the bounce of the ball or sheer will is seeing us to three points.

No need to say all is lost. No need to panic. But we do need to find that clinical nature we’ve seen before when games are won by half time.

York have Halifax H, Scunthorpe A, Morecambe A and Boreham Wood A in the next four games. Win them all and I’d expect them to win the league. We need them to drop some points.

Don't think their keeper had any saves to make 2nd half despite being camped in their half - bit like last Saturday our shooting is woeful and we won't win the league now scoring 1 goal a game as our clean sheets have become less frequent. As for the penalty Drysdale is shouting and waving his arms at the players on the edge of the box - I think possibly Mani thought there was a problem and didn't take the kick. Definitely should've been a retake.

Rodney been really good tonight. He and East playing well. We need to play in their half as much as possible because they are dangerous up front.

Good advert for the national league so far.

Rodney started playing after half an hour, his weakness when in a good position on the edge of the box directly led to their goal

Second half, he wasted two, probably three good chances to hit the back of the net, plus his poorly executed pass to Pritchard (when the liner wrongly ruled it's crossed the byline} cost us another chance

So no, he hasn't been "really good", when it actually mattered

This isn't a question for you, dawlish, but why would the assessor, there to do a professional job, be telling random people that sort of information before his post-match debrief?

He wouldn't.

I'm not a maestro, far from it, but I just engage my brain before posting.

Scunny got it right first half, high press - we make mistakes, goal. We’ve seen this before, Hartlepool, York, Southend.

Less said about the penalty the better, but from us gifting them a goal we were the better team.

Second half was crying out for something different, McBride for me was tge option but i’m an armchair manager only. Felt Smith would also have been an option but sadly injury still ongoing.

In a very short period Francis looked switched on.

I assume Scunny ran out of steam second half, as they abandoned the high press for the low block. I recognise it was a good point for them but to me it signalled their acceptance that their ambitions are playoffs not title.

Roberts had all the tricks in the book up front, best one was being 2 yards inside our box for every goalkick and giving it the ‘oh, am i?’ when told to shift.

Keeper did well for them, looked about 12 but took crosses like a veteran.

Ref was, well, nothing we haven’t seen before. For both teams.

Berger won 6 free-kicks in his ‘sub the sub’ appearance.

Ollie made a couple of goid saves early on.

Agreed, he is a professional not a Sunday League player..Just hammer it into the net and argue later.....BTW.. Drysdale has never had a good game at the COA...

Have to agree.
Here's hoping the FG's give us super Dev for the rest of the season now to make me eat my words.

Disclaimer - I'm a fickle football fan and if he fires us to League 2 I'll worship him like a God.

Edit - stopping being negative!

Let's be honest Scunthorpe were average at best. Long aimless balls dominated their play and the goal they scored came from our mistake and proved the benefit of shooting from outside the area and as importantly keeping it on target. We could and should have won that game easily but our finishing was dreadful and we failed to trouble the goalkeeper with any direct shot on target throughout the second half. We have done remarkably well so far and deserve much credit for that but our chances of staying ahead of York in this title chase depend entirely on our ability to stop spurning chances when we are clearly on top and the better team. Come on lads lets show some composure in around the box and earn the reward your excellent approach play deserves. UTD.

Thought Ebanks was magnificent throughout last night.
The last two games, we've attacked like anything especially in the second half, but no goals. Had the possession, let down by poor crosses and finishing. Surely one day it'll come right and the goals will fly in!

Credit to you for being honest about what you saw, and that's not you being negative (or me, for that matter) but looking at the reality of spurned chances, which are costing us

Sure, Mani spurned the most glaring chance of all, but he has so much credit in the bank

I can’t see how it’s anything other than a retake. For what ever reason mani d doesn’t attempt to take it. The ref is screaming, maybe he thought he was telling him to stop.

He turns around to retake and is shocked.

Unfortunately we've been missing lots and lots of chances all season - earlier in the season we got away with it with all the clean sheets. Not now - unfortunately 2 goals in 2 games isn't enough to win. York would've won that game tonight with all those chances.

Drawing against a top rival in this division isn't a bad performance. Although we dominated, we should have won with more quality in the opponent's box. The season outcome is not cause for concern, we are so competitive in every game, and this squad are a great bunch. And as long as the lads are giving it their all, we are going to win this league or be there abouts.

Refwatch - Rochdale v Scunthorpe United on 08:38 - Feb 18 with 950 viewsNorthernDale

Just listening to McNulty's post match comments, he said the referee had basically no control of the players on the edge of the box and was screaming, distracting Mani, but the referee thought Mani stopped his run to take the penalty, so awarded a free kick. Yet Mani thought the referee was shouting at him not to take the penalty and so jogs around the ball, crucially according to McNulty the assessor said the penalty should have been retaken and the referee made a mistake.

So it will be interesting to see what the official stance is, but we had enough chances and did not take them.

Let’s be positive. We’re clear at the top of the league and, looking at the next month’s fixtures up to the Southend game, there’s no why reason why, provided that people put their shooting boots on, that we can’t go on another run.
I can see the Halifax game away game being a potential banana skin but how did they contrive to lose to Gateshead last night?
Sorry if I’ve tempted the FGs there.
The only issue for BJ this morning may be reassessing his team for Saturday. Did he anticipate the likes of Mani D and Rodney playing 90 minutes last night? Could well be a chance for Allarakhia and Hendo on Saturday.
