agreed - the dynamic runs were back one of which led to the chance Dieseruvwe should have buried, another to the pen. (all less than DA's 30 mins rule!) & East's goal.

ps - don't bother trying to placate DA; it's like asking Trump to be humane

As per my reply to tr, his error in possession led to their goalscoring move. I guess if people can't follow a sequence of play beyond the end product, they'll make errors in assessment

Would agree that sometimes issues are missed when they take place earlier in the play. It was the same the other week with the criticism of Hogan when he’d been vital in his part at the start of moves that led to goals.

Similarly the overall way we play with ball retention at the back being the reason we can create space further forward. Building that style over the last few years and adapting along the way has been vital to all our present success even if there’s plenty of times we haven’t got it right.

You'll do anything but say you were wrong won't you? The pass from Gordon was a simple one that he got horribly wrong. Certainly not Rodney's fault. But it's clear that you made your mind up that you were going to have a go at him last night, and refuse to acknowledge the many good things he contributed.

I'd agree with that, now that a (mainly) winning formula has emerged but for a long time it looked like hidebound adherence to a coaching manual, and the capitulations at the end of last season also suggested a lack of backbone

Strengthening his coaching team has been transformative, and results speak for themselves

As already said, i wasn't overly disappointed with the draw last night. It's important the crowd remain patient too. The strengths and flaws that individual players have are part and parcel of the game; my only concern - this season - is getting over the finishing line and then strengthening again. There's no joy like the joy of being really good

I'm not having a go at anyone, simply pointing out the indifferent start that Rodney made (again) which ultimately led to their goal, and then his lack of composure on several different occasions when the game was there to be won

I thought Gordon vied with EEL for MOTM and would be loathe to criticise rare errors, since they're erm... rare

For goodness sake, watch the game more closely

Rodney received the ball on the edge of their box and got easily dispossessed. The resulting move led to their goal, with Rodney scratching his arse 50 yards away...

But if you were watching the game so closely, how did you know what Rodney was doing with his arse 50 yards away.....

I'm not a maestro, far from it, but I just engage my brain before posting.

If we conceded a goal every time a striker lost the ball up field, we would be in for cricket scores

There was numerous hairy scary moments in the first 30 where we were caught in possession by hungry Scunny players.

The actual goal came from a mis-hit clearance by Gordon, that hit an unexpecting Gilmour falling to their player to stick in the bottom corner giving Ollie no chance.

The Highlights.

[Post edited 18 Feb 14:21]

The Dale version of the highlights are a bit longer. We missed so many good chances. Pritchard first half and Pettit’s late on being notable ones.

They also illustrate how much impact Rodney had on the first half. Involved in the build up to five chances, including directly for two clear cut ones for Dieseruvwe and a big part with his run in behind for the equaliser. The enigma summed up just before half time by his driving run which saw the Scunny defence back off looking scared to death… only for his effort to be curled just wide.

Some very praiseworthy comments from this Scunny fan too:

So many chances (again). Strange performance from Drysdale too (at least there were no head butts). No yellow or red card for 2nd minute foul on Mani when he is goalside of all the Scunthorpe team and a clear run at goal. And then the penalty which is annoying me even more when I think about it. Surely he asked Mani why he didn't take it? You can see him in conversation with lots of Dale players. Did he not accept Mani's explanation of hearing another whistle from the crowd or someone shouting 'wait'. Why would a number 9 going for a League Championship give up the chance of a free shot at goal for no good reason?

Its a BRILLIANT goal to cap a BRILLIANT start by Rochdale - Don Goodman 26/08/10

only for his effort to be curled just wide.... Sadly more often than not..

There is a real player to be had in there.. the injury potential is a massive concern plus I just think he needs a good arm round the shoulder and some coaching in technique for keeping the ball on target.

If he clicks in the remaining games we will go very very close to this league title.

Isn't it a bit presumptuous to think he doesn't already get plenty of coaching on technique? It's like all those who think all our problems will be solved by just 'practising finishing more'. Maybe he is what he is, a lower league striker with a somewhat spotty goalscoring record. Which is why he plays for Rochdale.

Drysdale is an RAF Sergeant based at RAF Waddington...... in Lincolnshire...there is a long trail of his poor refereeing decisions online.. Prima Donna comes to mind ...or maybe Poundshop Collina is nearer the mark.

Good point about forwards losing the ball upfield, i just remember still thinking "he should've done a lot better there" as their goal went in less than a minute later

If he can continue playing on the front foot like we know he can it'll make a huge difference. Whatever it takes for the management team to flip his switch, there's no time like the run in to do it

We all have differing opinions from time to time. However I’m not keen on a player who the majority of the contributors on here feel played well and put in a shift being demeaned numerous times, for the sake of trying to stand on a point. Your remark about Rodney standing scratching his arse is crass.

A turn of phrase, which elicited a humorous response from TVOS

It's a football messageboard not a meeting of the Women's Institute
